Before you Begin <ul><li>There are types of search engines used to find webpages on the internet. </li></ul><ul><li>Some of the major engines are Google, Yahoo, MSN and AltaVista </li></ul><ul><li>These search engines most times give you a large amount of web hits and webpages that are not exactly what you are looking for. </li></ul><ul><li>The following slides are to help you use certain search engines to find specific content. </li></ul>

Searching Techniques <ul><li>Instead of just entering a word and pressing “search”, you can get better results by using a few methods </li></ul><ul><li>Boolean operators (AND, OR ,NOT) e.g. “bacteria AND growth” </li></ul><ul><li>Parenthesis e.g. “(bacteria AND growth) NOT phyla </li></ul><ul><li>Truncation </li></ul><ul><ul><li>e.g. “endosp?” </li></ul></ul>
