8. 8. Update on Activities Membership News

Sadly, 2 members have declared their intention to withdraw from the alliance this year, namely Bristol and Hull.

The main reason cited for withdrawal is lack of appropriate institutional funds. Funding is required in a variety of areas:

Hardware purchases

IT maintenance of the infrastructure

Library personnel to maintain/use the archived collection

The costs and benefits of digital archiving cut across disciplinary and administrative boundaries.

Neil Mayo
 9. 9. Update on Activities e-Journal Archiving Costs Neil Mayo LOCKSS and other systems require carefully managed infrastructural support at the institutional level . How can institutions provision appropriate cross-cutting funding to support their e-journal preservation strategy? One of our aims is to improve the self-sufficiency and usability of LOCKSS, reducing the support burden for IT departments and the overall costs of maintenance. Please note that LOCKSS subscription costs are remaining the same for the coming year 2011/12. The renewal agreement can be found on the JISC Collections website.
 10. 10. Update on Activities Support Queries Neil Mayo

Adam and Neil have been dealing with support queries in the UK Alliance. This has been informative for both of us; queries have helped us to:

Isolate and fix bugs

Identify workflow issues

Inform future development

Interesting topics have included:

How to setup the LOCKSS UI to use SSL

How to add new disks into a RAID setup

UI improvement is also on the agenda!
