  5. 5. Amsterdam is the Netherlands financial and business capital.</li></li></ul><li><ul><li>The Netherlands' location gives it total access to markets in the UK and Germany, with the port of Rotterdam being one of the largest if not the largest port in Europe.
  6. 6. Some other important parts of the economy are international trade banking and transport.
  7. 7. The Netherlands successfully addressed the issue of public finances and stagnating job growth long before its European partners.

The country continues to be one of the leading European nations for attracting foreign direct investment and is one of the five largest investors in the U.S.</li></li></ul><li><ul><li>Rotterdam has the largest port in Europe, with the rivers Meuse and Rhine providing excellent access to the hinterland upstream reaching to Basel, Switzerland, and into France.
  9. 9. From Rotterdam goods are transported by train, river barge, ship or road. In 2007, the Betuweroute, a new fast freight railway from Rotterdam to Germany, was completed.</li>
