  1. 1. 4 Hugh Vol. 42 November 21, 2017 Number 45 Peter’s Experience and Warning Simon Peter, when called by the Lord, immediately followed Him (Matthew 4:18-20). No doubt, Peter enjoyed his close fellowship with Jesus and was greatly strengthened thereby. Obviously in spite of all the good influence from Jesus, Peter did not become a man of iron. He still remained just a fallible human being. Christ exclaimed to Peter on one occasion, “…when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren” (Luke 22:32). His following Christ was afar off on the night of the betrayal (Luke 22:54). After he had betrayed his Lord, he wept bitterly (Luke 22:62). This godly sorrow brought genuine repentance (II Corinthians 7:10). Do you not think that Peter was probably thinking of the devil’s influence in his own life when he, by inspiration, gave us warning? “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (I Peter 5:8). Let us give earnest heed to Peter’s stern warning about Satan’s full intent to destroy us! --Robert Kingsley ELDERS Mike Childers..............397-6453 Dennis Hallmark .........255-5557 Mark Hitt.....................322-0917 Bobby Lindley.............871-8175 Mike Ratliff.................840-2206 DEACONS Wade Bryan.................419-5552 William Harris.............416-8149 Ricky Lindsey .............844-9944 Jeff Mansel..................871-0357 Harold Roby................844-5431 Joe Smith.....................397-4524 Jimmy Spearman.........840-8957 Michael Wilson ...........891-0891 PREACHER .....................................840-5804 SECRETARY Renee Childers Office...........................842-6116 Fax...............................842-7091 E-MAIL eastmaincoc38804@gmail.com WEB PAGE eastmaincoc.com SUNDAY SERVICES Bible Classes............... 9:45 a.m. Morning Worship...... 10:45 a.m. Evening Worship.........5:00 p.m. Singing or Devotional Last Sunday of the Month MID-WEEK SERVICES Wednesday Classes .....7:00 p.m. EAST MAIN CHURCH OF CHRIST 1606 East Main Street P. Rommie & Annie Dilworth ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear East Main family, Thank you so much for your prayers, cards, calls and flowers. They meant so much at a time when our hearts were filled with sadness. We will miss Scotty, but it was easier to give him up than to watch him gasping for breath. If tobacco is your vice, I urge you to quit NOW! The price is far too great.
