Repentance, Not Easy But Necessary
Some of God’s commands to us are difficult to obey.
Repentance is one of them.
Why is repenting so difficult? This is because it always
begins with changing our minds, and that is not always easy.
Before one turns from sin, the second part of repentance,
there must first be a change of mind. True repentance includes
a genuine sorrow for our sin.
We read in Second Corinthians, chapter seven, verse ten, that
“…godly sorrow worketh repentance.”
Just what is repentance? Simply put, it is a change of mind
which leads to a change of action.
Do you remember the man with a vineyard and two sons
(Matthew 21:28-31)? “…he came to the first and said, Son, go
work today in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not:
but afterward he repented and went.”
Notice that this boy repented. What did it involve? He
changed his mind and action.
Our loving God does not want sin to separate any one from
Him. Therefore He desires all to repent (II Peter 3:9).
Although repentance is not easy, it is necessary.

  • 1. 4 Hugh Vol. 42 October 10, 2017 Number 39 Repentance, Not Easy But Necessary Some of God’s commands to us are difficult to obey. Repentance is one of them. Why is repenting so difficult? This is because it always begins with changing our minds, and that is not always easy. Before one turns from sin, the second part of repentance, there must first be a change of mind. True repentance includes a genuine sorrow for our sin. We read in Second Corinthians, chapter seven, verse ten, that “…godly sorrow worketh repentance.” Just what is repentance? Simply put, it is a change of mind which leads to a change of action. Do you remember the man with a vineyard and two sons (Matthew 21:28-31)? “…he came to the first and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented and went.” Notice that this boy repented. What did it involve? He changed his mind and action. Our loving God does not want sin to separate any one from Him. Therefore He desires all to repent (II Peter 3:9). Although repentance is not easy, it is necessary. --Robert Kingsley ELDERS Mike Childers..............397-6453 Dennis Hallmark .........255-5557 Mike Ratliff.................840-2206 DEACONS Wade Bryan.................419-5552 William Harris.............416-8149 Mark Hitt.....................322-0917 Bobby Lindley.............869-0546 Ricky Lindsey .............844-9944 Jeff Mansel..................871-0357 Harold Roby................844-5431 Joe Smith.....................397-4524 Jimmy Spearman.........840-8957 Michael Wilson ...........891-0891 PREACHER .....................................840-5804 SECRETARY Renee Childers Office...........................842-6116 Fax...............................842-7091 E-MAIL churchofchr27789@bellsouth.net WEB PAGE eastmaincoc.com SUNDAY SERVICES Bible Classes............... 9:45 a.m. Morning Worship...... 10:45 a.m. Evening Worship.........5:00 p.m. Singing or Devotional Last Sunday of the Month MID-WEEK SERVICES Wednesday Classes .....7:00 p.m. EAST MAIN CHURCH OF CHRIST 1606 East Main Street P.
