Repentance, Not Easy But Necessary
Some of God’s commands to us are difficult to obey.
Repentance is one of them.
Why is repenting so difficult? This is because it always
begins with changing our minds, and that is not always easy.
Before one turns from sin, the second part of repentance,
there must first be a change of mind. True repentance includes
a genuine sorrow for our sin.
We read in Second Corinthians, chapter seven, verse ten, that
“…godly sorrow worketh repentance.”
Just what is repentance? Simply put, it is a change of mind
which leads to a change of action.
Do you remember the man with a vineyard and two sons
(Matthew 21:28-31)? “…he came to the first and said, Son, go
work today in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not:
but afterward he repented and went.”
Notice that this boy repented. What did it involve? He
changed his mind and action.
Our loving God does not want sin to separate any one from
Him. Therefore He desires all to repent (II Peter 3:9).
Although repentance is not easy, it is necessary.
