  2. 2. True Manliness “Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and show thyself a man” (I Kings 2: 1, 2). It is one thing to be a man in size and age, but altogether another matter to be a real man in God’s sight. That is what David wanted Solomon to be. How can one show himself to really be a man? Some seem to think it is by showing how many fights you can win, how many bad words you can say and how many women you can have. Being a real man is far different from this. Having good understanding is one trait of a real man. “…in understanding be ye men” (I Corinthians 14:20). That includes understanding what the will of the Lord is (Ephesians 5:17). Fellows, you need to understand that there is nothing sissy at all about learning the Lord’s will and faithfully following it. That is true manliness.
