  1. 4 Hugh Vol. 43 February 13, 2018 Number 7 Our Ride is Sure to Burn! Suppose you’re riding down the road one day and your automobile catches on fire. You say, “That would be terribly alarming!” You’ve ridden in that vehicle for several miles and now it just burns up! But you are able to get out and away from it safely. You obtain another automobile. So you still have a ride. Now I’m thinking of another vehicle that has the greatest number of passengers of any. In fact, we all ride on this one. It is this ole globe, God’s earth. How long will we ride on it? People have been doing it for about 6000 years. But just as surely as we are riding it, one day it will catch on fire, and all the fire departments of this world will not be able to extinguish it. Yes, according to 2 Peter 3:10, “the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” At that time, each of us will need to catch another ride away from here. If we’ve prepared for that prepared eternal home, our ride will be with our Lord to glory (I Thessalonians 4:17). But if unprepared, our ride will be to “everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord” (II Thessalonians 1:7-9). Which ride would be yours if this ole world started burning right now?
