“How Can I?”
Joseph asked, “How can I?” What he meant was, how can I
afford to do this?
Potiphar’s wife had tempted Joseph to go to bed with her.
His response was, “…how then can I do this great wickedness
and sin against God” (Genesis 39:9)?
Joseph well knew that this illicit sexual intercourse with this
woman would be sin against God. Therefore he refused to be
involved in this “great wickedness.”
O how America needs to get back to exalting God’s principles
of morality like Joseph did! Today instead of thinking of illicit
sexual acts as great wickedness, they are generally considered as
just great pleasure.
This indeed can be pleasure, alright, but only for a season
(Hebrews 11:25). Then down the road is judgment day.
On that day, the guilty will say, “How can I” in a totally
different way than Joseph did. It will be “How can I stand in
judgment?”
The ungodly shall not stand (Psalms 1:5).

Mexico Mission Trip
Report
This Trip to Palenque was one of the best. We
arrived on Wednesday night and began the three-
day lectureship on Thursday night. The speakers
were Agenor Rudas from Panama, Francisco
Gonzales from Costa Rica, Jaime Carillo from
Queretaro, Mexico, and Wade Webster from
College Station, Texas. The attendance was about
sixty on Thursday and Friday and over ninety on
Saturday. Sunday, one of our sweet teenage girls,
Deysi, was baptized. She is Domingo’s niece.
Karen left on Monday to return to the US to go back
to work, but Wade Webster and Wade Bryan stayed
behind to conduct Bible studies and encourage the
brethren. There were about three good and fruitful
Bible studies each day. Some studies were in
Palenque with folks in the community or with
wayward members of the congregation. We went to
Zapata, about an hour from Palenque, and studied
with a family there. Some of the members were
faithful, but some were not Christians yet. Two
couples were living together but not married and we
were trying to help them straighten out these
situations and then become Christians. Most of the
work we did the second half of the trip was planting
seed that we earnestly pray will bear fruit someday
soon. We also spent a day in Ocosingo, about three
hours from Palenque, worshipping and fellow-
shipping with the brethren there. They have
attended our Palenque lectures over the years and
want us to help them to begin planning and
conducting a lectureship in their congregation. At
the same time, we received a request from a
congregation in Villahermosa to do the same in
their congregation. As you can see, the fields are
white for harvest. Please continue to pray for this
good work. Wade Bryan

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The family of God at East Main expresses our deep
appreciation to Mike Ratliff for your nearly twenty years
of faithful service as an elder. We would have liked for
you to serve longer, but we respect your decision to
resign. We are aware that efforts in caring for God’s
flock and His cause can be very challenging. We know
you leaned on the Lord for strength, and He was always
there for you. For those of us who expressed our
gratitude to you over the years, and for those who
neglected to do it, we all say now from the depths of our
hearts, “THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.”
Our many prayers went up for you as you served as an
elder. They will continue now for our retired elder.
