This e-newsletter aims to provide a brief selection some of the most significant items. For more details and/or further discussion, please contact me directly at david@360in360ix.co.uk The Oculus GO Headset & Controller Oculus GO Review The Oculus GO is a wireless stand-alone virtual reality headset which I see as a real quantum leap for Immersive Experience developers and consumers. It is the first of a new generation of VR headsets which already delivers an affordable, accessible and compelling user experience of 360 degree images, videos and virtual tours. Please contact me at david@360in360ix.co.uk for a demonstration. Virtual Reality Masterclasses With the launch of the Oculus GO, there are a multitude of potential virtual reality applications for business and pleasure. Many of these are covered on my web site (www.360in360ix.co.uk) and some are described in this e-newsletter. I am now offering custom masterclasses with cover how to capture, edit and publish 360 degree images, videos and virtual tours and how to best experience them with VR headsets like Oculus GO. These workshops include discounts on Oculus GO headsets for workshop delegates. Contact me at david@360in360ix.co.uk for a discussion How to use 360 degree technologies and virtual reality for business and pleasure applications Central Market Retail Experience 360 Degree Video Applications Most consumers users of 360 degree cameras focus on personal adventure experiences such as skydiving but there are a multiplicity of potential business applications for 360 video. The most significant applications are in the area of training/education and marketing/promotion where immersive experience and virtual reality can have a major impact. The still image on the left is a retail tourism example from Kuala Lumpur. Check out some of the other applications on my web site at www.360in360ix.co.uk. Virtual Tours Virtual tours are interactive 360 degree applications in which users can explore and navigate images and videos on VR headsets, smartphones and computers. They use hotspots to either switch to a new 360 degree image or bring up further information, 360 videos and links to web sites. I have created a number of different demonstration examples on the 360in360 web site, illustrating the range of potential leisure and commercial applications. I am especially interested in heritage applications – see https://kuula.co/post/7Pc0j/collection/7fBgl. Virtual Tour Interactive Map Example

It requires Google to accept a minimum of 50 x 360 degree photographs and uses gamification to encourage partners to publish photos and share experiences (like Trip Adviser). The screenshot opposite shows the latest information about my contributions together with images shot at Ragley Hall during the Game Show 2018. I currently have 15,269 published photos which have been viewed 8,430,220 times. I am now a Level 9 Trusted Guide with a total of 74,428 points for my contributions. Immersive Technologies and Serious Games 360 degree video recordings of games-based learning activities can provide new insights into player behaviours that can be very useful for debriefing exercises and evaluations of the effectiveness of the games in engaging players. I have already used 360 degree video to analyse different types of games and the use of 360 degree video is a real eye-opener and a powerful debriefing tool. See https://youtu.be/MMUMCh2qo6A Screenshot from the 360 video recording of David Crookall’s Trading Game at ISAGA 2018 Screenshot from Milton Keynes Virtual Heritage Tour http://www.360in360ix.co.uk/virtualheritage.html Virtual Reality and Heritage/Tourism 360 degree photos, videos and virtual tours coupled with VR headsets and social media platforms are perfect for promoting and sharing local heritage with a global audience and encouraging exploration of new places and experiences, many of which we can all discover on our doorstep. My special interest is in how this combination of technologies can help to bridge the generation gap and capture some of the rich knowledge and life experiences of older people to help educate and inspire the younger generation. No-one is too old for VR – ask 93 year old Emmy - https://youtu.be/fWarZhsTHEQ 7th International Conference on Cartography Live 360 Stream from Sozopol, Bulgaria The 7th International Conference on Cartography and Geographical Informations Systems took place in Sozopol, Bulgaria in June. As well as making a presentation on the theme of “Immersive Technologies and Location-based social and economic development” which you can access at https://youtu.be/z3LqO2eZiUM I also demonstrated live 360 degree streaming over a mobile network during the lunch break. You can view a recording of the live stream which was watched in Thailand and Lithuania at https://youtu.be/Gka32j3XH54. Notice the difference between a live stream and a published recorded stream. The Interactive Map of Sozopol Screenshot from Vinod Dumblekar and Songsri Soronastaporn’s Salad Bowl Game ISAGA 2018 Conference Review The International Simulation and Games Association (ISAGA) held their 49th annual conference in partnership with Thaisim at Mahidol University, Bangkok in July. This conference showcases some of the best academics and practitioners involved in games-based learning and simulation. Whilst there were many computer-based learning applications demonstrated, some of the most compelling sessions did not involve the use of technology. The Salad Bowl game was a good example of how team-based challenges can help develop critical skills and collaborative learning. Please contact me at david@360in360ix for more details or for a detailed discussion on how 360 degree technologies and virtual reality might be applied in your own situation. Have a great summer.
