  2. 2. David is King of all Israel. 2
  3. 3. 2 Samuel 6 1 Again, David gathered together allthe chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2 AndDavid arose, and went with all the people that werewith him from Baale of Judah, to bring up fromthence the Ark of God, whose Name is called bythe Name of the LORD of hosts that dwellethbetween the cherubims. David had a very good desire: Bring the Ark of God to Jerusalem. 3
  4. 4. The desire to keep God close or, better said, to keep close to God is a good desire.James 4:7-10 (KJV) 7 Submit yourselves thereforeto God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.8 Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify yourhearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves inthe sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up. 4
  5. 5. If there is any distance between a Christian and our God, sin is to blame for it all.It may be sins of commission or sins of omission. It may be sins of attitude, or sins of behavior. The Philistines had taken the Ark of God from the Israelites on the field of battle,Because of the sins of the priests in God’s House. 1 Sam 1-6 5
  6. 6. For 100 long years the Ark of the Covenant hadbeen separated from the tabernacle and otherplaces of worship. The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures by Dallas Seminary Faculty. Now Israel has the king whom God chose. His heart is right with God. The Ark will be restored to its rightful place. 6
  7. 7. Is thy heart right with God? We can be restored to full fellowship with our Lord. First of all -- our sin must break our heart.James 4:9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let yourlaughter be turned to mourning, and your joy toheaviness. 7
  8. 8. Psalm 34 18 The LORD is nigh unto them that areof a broken heart; and saveth such as be of acontrite (crushed) spirit. So, our sin must break our heart. 8
  9. 9. James 4:8 Drawnigh to God, and He will draw nigh toyou. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purifyyour hearts, ye double-minded.Turn from the sins of the flesh, and turn single- mindedly unto God and righteousness. Quit fussing and cussing, quit your stinking drinking, let your pride slide, and get right. 9
  10. 10. 2 Sam 6:3 Andthey set the Ark ofGod upon a new cart, andbrought it out of the house ofAbinadab that was in Gibeah:and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons To be right withof Abinadab, drave the new God does notcart. 4 And they brought it out guarantee thatof the house of Abinadab we will make nowhich was at Gibeah, mistakes.accompanying the ark of God:and Ahio went before the ark. 10
  11. 11. They worshipped with music5 And David and all the house of Israel playedbefore the LORD on all manner of instrumentsmade of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals. 11
  12. 12. Celebration of the Goodness of God with music is always a good thing. Some people get so focused on working for the Lord that they forget to celebrate.Leviticus 23:39 (NIV) "So beginning with thefifteenth day of the seventh month, after you havegathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festivalto the LORD for seven days; the first day is a dayof rest, and the eighth day also is a day of rest. 12
  13. 13. Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV) 10 Nehemiah said, "Go andenjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send someto those who have nothing prepared. This day issacred to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joyof the LORD is your strength."Psalm 122:1 (KJV) 1 I was glad when they saidunto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.Psalm 42:4 (NIV) These things I remember as Ipour out my soul: how I used to go with the multi-tude, leading the procession to the house of God,with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among thefestive throng. 13
  14. 14. 6 And when they came toNachons threshing-floor,Uzzah put forth his hand tothe ark of God, and tookhold of it; for the oxenshook it. 7 And the anger ofthe LORD was kindledagainst Uzzah; and Godsmote him there for hiserror; and there he died bythe Ark of God. 14
  15. 15. 8 And David was displeased, because the LORD hadmade a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name ofthe place Perez (outbreak against) Uzzah to this day.9 And David was afraid of the LORD that day, andsaid, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?Proverbs 19 3 The foolishness of man perverteth hisway: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.How were they supposed to transport the ark? 15
  16. 16. 16
  17. 17. Only certain of the priests were supposed to carry the Ark, and they weren’t supposed to touch it.God had told them specifically howto transport the Ark. If David didn’t know, he could have known.Doing things as God has said is vital. 17
  18. 18. 10 So David would not remove the ark of the LORDunto him into the city of David: but David carriedit aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.David had made a mistake, God punished himfor his error, and David was afraid to continue. The better thing would have been to ask forgiveness, find out the correct procedure, And continue to take the Ark home. 18
  19. 19. When we make mistakes, and we will – Let us acknowledge our error and repent. Then keep on keeping on. 19
