  1. 1. 1Gospel Baptist Tabernacle781 Salem Road, Rossville, GA 30741Where the Love of Godabounds, everyone iswelcome.Children’s Church taughtby Paul and Marsha Davisduring preaching.www.rossvillechurch.comMay 19, 2013
  2. 2. 22 Samuel 11:27 (KJV) And when the mourningwas past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. Butthe thing that David had done displeased theLORD.
  3. 3. 32 Samuel 12 1 And the LORD sent Nathan (theprophet of God) unto David. And he came untohim, and said unto him, There were two men in onecity; the one rich, and the other poor. 2 The richman had exceeding many flocks and herds: 3 Butthe poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grewup together with him, and with his children; it dideat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, andlay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
  4. 4. 44 And there came a traveler unto the rich man, andhe spared to take of his own flock and of his ownherd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was comeunto him; but took the poor mans lamb, anddressed it for the man that was come to him.5 And Davids anger was greatly kindled against theman; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:6 And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because hedid this thing, and because he had no pity.
  5. 5. 57 And Nathan said to David, Thouart the man. Thus saith the LORDGod of Israel, I anointed thee kingover Israel, and I delivered thee outof the hand of Saul; 8 And I gavethee thy masters house, and thymasters wives into thy bosom, andgave thee the house of Israel and ofJudah; and if that had been toolittle, I would moreover have givenunto thee such and such things(much, much more).
  6. 6. 69 Wherefore hast thou despised the Commandmentof the LORD, to do evil in His sight? thou hastkilled Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hasttaken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain himwith the sword of the children of Ammon. When we choose to disregard the Word of God,we show that we despise His Word,And we choose to do evil in His sight.Whether we commit sins of commission, such asadultery and murder as David did.Or sins of omission such as refusing to pray, worship, study the Bible, and go to church.
  7. 7. 710 Now therefore the sword shall never depart fromthine house; because thou hast despised Me, andhast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thywife. To despise the Word of God is to despise God.We show that we despise or disesteemwhen we disregard or ignore.
  8. 8. 811 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evilagainst thee out of thine own house, and I will takethy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thyneighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in thesight of this sun (broad daylight). 12 For thou didstit secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.David’s own sons rose up against himand tried to take his throne. His son Absalom took his concubines and laid withthem on the rooftop in sight of all Israel.
  9. 9. 913 And David said unto Nathan,I have sinned against theLORD. And Nathan said untoDavid, The LORD also hath putaway thy sin; thou shalt not die.Repentance is a gift from the Lord. When we truly humble ourselves, confess oursins, and ask forgivenessWe receive the grace and mercyof God in abundance.
  10. 10. 1014 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast givengreat occasion to the enemies of the LORD toblaspheme, the child also that is born unto theeshall surely die.Repentance doesn’t guarantee to remove allthe consequences of our sins in this life. When we willfully sin, we give the devil anadvantage against our Lord.We shame God, our Father.
  11. 11. 1115 And Nathan departed unto hishouse. And the LORD struck thechild that Uriahs wife bare untoDavid, and it was very sick.16 David therefore besought Godfor the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all nightupon the earth. 17 And the eldersof his house arose, and went tohim, to raise him up from theearth: but he would not, neitherdid he eat bread with them.
  12. 12. 1218 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that thechild died. And the servants of David feared to tellhim that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him,and he would not hearken unto our voice: how willhe then vex himself, if we tell him that the child isdead?
  13. 13. 1319 But when David saw that hisservants whispered, David perceivedthat the child was dead: thereforeDavid said unto his servants, Is thechild dead? And they said, He is dead.20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and cameinto the house of the LORD, andworshipped: then he came to his ownhouse; and when he required, they setbread before him, and he did eat.
  14. 14. 1421 Then said his servants unto him, What thing isthis that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weepfor the child, while it was alive; but when the childwas dead, thou didst rise and eat bread. 22 And hesaid, While the child was yet alive, I fasted andwept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will begracious to me, that the child may live? 23 But nowhe is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring himback again? I shall go to him, but he shall notreturn to me.
  15. 15. 15Often people ask if a child who has died goesdirectly to Heaven.David knew that his child had gone toHeaven, and that he (David) would go to bewith him.David took comfort from that knowledge,And so can we.
  16. 16. 1624 And David comfortedBathsheba his wife, and went inunto her, and lay with her: andshe bare a son, and he called hisname Solomon: and the LORDloved him. 25 And He sent by thehand of Nathan the prophet; andHe called his name Jedidiah(beloved of the Lord), because ofthe LORD.
  17. 17. 1726 And Joab fought againstRabbah of the children ofAmmon, and took the royalcity. 27 And Joab sentmessengers to David, andsaid, I have fought againstRabbah, and have taken thecity of waters. He had taken the water supply of the royal city. The city was ready to be overcome.
  18. 18. 1828 Now therefore gather the restof the people together, andencamp against the city, andtake it: lest I take the city, andit be called after my name.David needed to come andlead the army to thisvictory, or Joab would get thecredit.
  19. 19. 1929 And David gathered all thepeople together, and went toRabbah, and fought against it,and took it. 30 And he took theirkings crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talentof gold (BKC – 75 pounds) withthe precious stones: and it was seton Davids head. And he broughtforth the spoil of the city in greatabundance.
  20. 20. 2031 And he brought forth the peoplethat were therein, and put themunder saws, and under harrows ofiron, and under axes of iron, andmade them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all thecities of the children of Ammon. SoDavid and all the people returnedunto Jerusalem.with saws, iron picks, axes, and makingbricks.David madeslaves of theAmmonites, working athard labor
  21. 21. 21I want us to see all that God is teaching in this.First of all, God saw and judged David’s sins.David was so concerned about what people thoughtthat he committed murder to cover up adultery. But he could not hide from God!God sent His prophet to confront David.David wrote that song, “I fought the Lawand the Law won.”
  22. 22. 22“thou despised the Commandment ofthe LORD, to do evil in His sight.”“thou hast despised Me.”David ignored and disobeyed God’s Word. That is serious business. We don’t get to decide what is serious sin.To disregard God’s Word is to despise God.
  23. 23. 2313 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinnedagainst the LORD. And Nathan said unto David,The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shaltnot die.1 John 1:9 (KJV) If weconfess our sins, He isfaithful and just to forgive usour sins, and to cleanse usfrom all unrighteousness.
  24. 24. 24Proverbs 28:13 (KJV) He thatcovereth his sins shall notprosper: but whosoconfesseth and forsakeththem shall have mercy.Don’t spend another moment under theburden of guilt.Let it bring you to your knees in truerepentance. That’s the only purpose of guilt.
