1 samuel 15a human logic is the devil's stronghold

  1. 1. Stone Creek www.rossvillechurch.com 781 Salem Road, Rossville, GA 30741 14-22-12
  2. 2. 1 Samuel 14:52 Andthere wassore war against thePhilistines all the days ofSaul: and when Saul sawany strong man, or anyvaliant man, he took himunto him. 2
  3. 3. 1 Samuel 15 1 Samuel also saidunto Saul, The Lord sent me toanoint thee to be king over Hispeople, over Israel: now there-fore hearken thou unto theVoice of the Words of the Lord.2 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I Sneak Attackremember that which Amalekdid to Israel, how he laid waitfor him in the way, when hecame up from Egypt. 3
  4. 4. 3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all thatthey have, and spare themnot; but slay both man andwoman, infant and suckling,ox and sheep, camel and ass.4 And Saul gathered thepeople together, andnumbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousandfootmen, and ten thousand Sauls armymen of Judah. has grown. 4
  5. 5. 1 Samuel 13 1 Saul reigned one year; and when hehad reigned two years over Israel, 2 Saul chose himthree thousand men of Israel; whereof two thousandwere with Saul in Michmash and in mount Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah ofBenjamin: and the rest of the people he sent everyman to his tent. God gave victory to the nation even with this small standing army -- Over a massive army of Philistines. 5
  6. 6. Saul has gone from trusting in a BIG GOD with a small army, To trusting in a big army and leaving God out. 6
  7. 7. 5 And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid waitin the valley. 6 And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go,depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewedkindness to all the children of Israel, when theycame up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed fromamong the Amalekites. Vengeance for His children is the Lords prerogative, and He never forgets. God never forgets a kindness done unto His children either. 7
  8. 8. 7- 8 AndSaul smote the Amalekitesfrom Havilah until thou comest toShur, that is over against Egypt. And he took Agag the king of theAmalekites alive, and utterlydestroyed all the people with theedge of the sword. Is that what God said to do? 8
  9. 9. 9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the bestof the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldnot utterly destroy them: but everything that wasvile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.Saul and the Israelites allowed human logic to outweigh Gods Word. This cant turn out well. 9
  10. 10. 2 Corinthians 10 3-5 For though we walk in theflesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For theweapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mightythrough God to the pulling down of strongholds;)casting down imaginations (logismos -- reasoning),and every high thing that exalteth itself against theknowledge of God, and bringing into captivityevery thought to the obedience of Christ; Human reasoning is the devils stronghold; It exalts itself against God. 10
  11. 11. Galatians 5 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us alsowalk in the Spirit.Romans 8 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit ofGod, they are the sons of God. Christians must never be led by our carnal minds or our carnal emotions. We are the children of the Most High God; We must submit ourselves unto God and obey His Word and His Spirit,. 11
  12. 12. 10 Then came the Word ofthe Lord unto Samuel, saying, 11 It repenteth(grieves) Me that I haveset up Saul to be king: forhe is turned back fromfollowing Me, and hath notperformed My Command-ments. And it grievedSamuel; and he cried untothe Lord all night. 12
  13. 13. 12 Andwhen Samuel rose early to meet Saul in themorning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came toCarmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and isgone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal. When Saul saw the fatness of the Amalekite sheep andcattle and when he considered the enhancement of hisown glory and prestige in bringing back Agag, king ofAmalek, as prisoner, he could not resist returning themas public exhibits of his leadership. That this wasSaul’s intent is clear (v12), which speaks of Saul’serecting a monument to his own honor at Carmel … The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures by Dallas Seminary Faculty. 13
  14. 14. How often people take glory for that which God has done. Draw a big crowd; Build a big church. 14
  15. 15. 13 And Samuel came to Saul: andSaul said unto him, Blessed bethou of the Lord: I haveperformed the Commandment ofthe Lord. 15
  16. 16. 14 And Samuel said, Whatmeaneth then this bleating ofthe sheep in mine ears, andthe lowing of the oxen whichI hear? 15 And Saul said,They have brought themfrom the Amalekites: for thepeople spared the best of thesheep and of the oxen, tosacrifice unto the Lord thyGod; and the rest we haveutterly destroyed. 16
  17. 17. "to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God;" He didnt even recognize God as his God.When we cease to do things Gods Way, but use our own logic to make decisions, We are on the road to backsliding."I think." "I feel." "My opinion is." 17
  18. 18. Gods Way is the Only Way of blessing. As revealed by Deuteronomy 1126-28 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; a blessing, if ye obey the Commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the Commandments of the Lord your God, … 18
