  3. 3. 1 Samuel 12 1 And Samuel saidunto all Israel, Behold, I havehearkened unto your voice in allthat ye said unto me, and havemade a king over you. 2 Andnow, behold, the king walkethbefore you: and I am old andgray-headed; and, behold, mysons are with you: and I havewalked before you from mychildhood unto this day. 3
  4. 4. He gave them a king, like other nations. This was contrary to the Will of God, and yet, God told Samuel to give them their demand.Whenever we demand our own will and our own way, we are rejecting Gods Will and Way. 4
  5. 5. Samuel had led Israel as Gods Servant since childhood. He spoke only what God gave him to speak. He was Gods voice to the people. That meant that God was their leader or king, using Samuel to speak to them. 5
  6. 6. 3 Behold, here I am: witnessagainst me before the Lord, and before His anointed:whose ox have I taken? orwhose ass have I taken? orwhom have I defrauded?whom have I oppressed? orof whose hand have Ireceived any bribe to blindmine eyes therewith? and Iwill restore it you. Retiring 6
  7. 7. 4 And they said, Thou hastnot defrauded us, noroppressed us, neither hastthou taken ought of anymans hand.5 And he said unto them,The Lord is witness againstyou, and His anointed iswitness this day, that yehave not found ought in myhand. And they answered,He is witness. 7
  8. 8. As Gods man, Samuel had been totally honest and upright before the people.By demanding a king, they had rejected both God as their king and Samuel as Gods Voice. Themselves 8
  9. 9. 6 And Samuel said unto thepeople, It is the Lord thatadvanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought yourfathers up out of the land ofEgypt. 7 Now thereforestand still, that I may reasonwith you before the Lord ofall the righteous acts of theLord, which He did to youand to your fathers. 9
  10. 10. 8 When Jacob was come intoEgypt, and your fathers criedunto the Lord, then the Lordsent Moses and Aaron, whichbrought forth your fathers outof Egypt, and made themdwell in this place. Its important to rehearse and remember the good things God has done. 10
  11. 11. 9 And when they forgot theLord their God, He soldthem into the hand ofSisera, captain of the hostof Hazor, and into the handof the Philistines, and intothe hand of the king ofMoab, and they foughtagainst them. Its also important to remember the chastising Hand of God. 11
  12. 12. 10 And they cried unto theLord, and said, We havesinned, because we haveforsaken the Lord, andhave served Baalim andAshtaroth: but nowdeliver us out of the handof our enemies, and wewill serve Thee. 12
  13. 13. 11 And the Lord sent Jerub-baal(Gideon), and Bedan, andJephthah*, and Samuel, anddelivered you out of the hand ofyour enemies on every side, andye dwelled safe. 12 And when yesaw that Nahash the king of thechildren of Ammon came againstyou, ye said unto me, Nay; but aking shall reign over us: when theLord your God was your king. 13
  14. 14. Samuel reminded them of the wrong of which they had not repented. They demanded a human king, to be like other nations. 14
  15. 15. When we demand our own way,We are rejecting God and His Way. my will Gods Will 15
  16. 16. 13 Now therefore behold theking whom ye havechosen, and whom ye havedesired! and, behold, theLord hath set a king overyou. 16
  17. 17. 14 If ye will fear the Lord, and serve Him, and obeyHis Voice, and not rebelagainst the Command-ment of the Lord, thenshall both ye and also theking that reigneth overyou continue followingthe Lord your God: 17
  18. 18. 15 Butif ye will not obey theVoice of the Lord, but rebelagainst the Commandment ofthe Lord, then shall the Hand ofthe Lord be against you, as itwas against your fathers. Which do you prefer? 18
  19. 19. Gods Way is the Way of Blessing! When we walk as God teaches us to walk, we avoid the pitfalls of sin, And we enjoy the good things that God is leading us into. 19
