1 samuel 10a a new heart

  1. 1. Christmas program December 18 www.rossvillechurch.com 1November 27, 2011
  2. 2. 1 Samuel 10 1 Then Samueltook a vial of oil, and pouredit upon (Sauls) head, andkissed him, and said, Is it notbecause the Lord hathanointed thee to be captainover His inheritance? God has set apart Saul to be king of Israel. Why? We know that wasnt Gods perfect Will. The people demanded a king. 2
  3. 3. This was not Gods Plan.In fact God told Samuel to warn them against it.But they demanded a king to be like other nations. We will never have Gods Best by demanding our own way in anything. We will never have Gods Best when we try to be like the world. 3
  4. 4. (Samuel is still speaking toSaul:) 2 When thou art de-parted from me today, then thoushalt find two men by Rachelssepulchre in the border ofBenjamin at Zelzah; and theywill say unto thee, The asseswhich thou wentest to seek arefound: and, lo, thy father hathleft the care of the asses, andsorroweth for you, saying,What shall I do for my son? 4
  5. 5. 3 Then shalt thou go on forwardfrom thence, and thou shaltcome to the plain of Tabor, andthere shall meet thee three mengoing up to God to Bethel, onecarrying three kids, andanother carrying three loavesof bread, and another carryinga bottle of wine: 5
  6. 6. 4 And they will salute thee, and give thee twoloaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of theirhands. To be blessed as God Wills, we must receive (accept) His provision. Salvation Healing Finances Pride will block us from Gods Best.Samuel told Saul to receive the bread from the men. 6
  7. 7. 5 After that thou shalt come to thehill of God, where is the garrison ofthe Philistines: and it shall come topass, when thou art come thither tothe city, that thou shalt meet acompany of prophets coming downfrom the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret (tambourine), and apipe, and a harp, before them; andthey shall prophesy: 7
  8. 8. 6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt beturned into another man. 7 And let it be, when thesesigns are come unto thee, that thou do as occasionserve thee; for God is with thee. God would turn a country boy into a king. 8
  9. 9. Very often God calls a man or a woman to a certain job or ministry, and he or she is afraid. "Im not qualified to do that." "I dont have the training to do that." "I dont think I would enjoy doing that." 9
  10. 10. [Samuel to Saul] 8 And thoushalt go down before me toGilgal; and, behold, I willcome down unto thee, tooffer burnt offerings, and tosacrifice sacrifices of peaceofferings: seven days shaltthou tarry, till I come tothee, and shew thee whatthou shalt do. 10
  11. 11. 9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back togo from Samuel, God gave him another heart(feelings, will, intellect) and all those signs came topass that day. All that God says will come to pass. 11
  12. 12. "God gave Saul another heart."Not only a new mindset from country boy to king, But also the anointing of the Holy Ghost that he would have the ability to follow God, and people would follow him. Old Testament times were different from the church age. 12
  13. 13. 2 Corinthians 6 16 And what agreement hath thetemple of God with idols? for ye are the temple ofthe living God; as God hath said, I will dwell inthem, and walk in them; and I will be their God,and they shall be My people. During Old Testament times the Holy Ghost came upon men for specific missions.Today He dwells in the hearts of His children. 13
  14. 14. 10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, acompany of prophets met him; and the Spirit ofGod came upon him, and he prophesied amongthem. 11 And it came to pass, when all that knewhim beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesiedamong the prophets, then the people said one toanother, What is this that is come unto the son ofKish? Is Saul also among the prophets? 14
  15. 15. The change in Saul was so obvious that the people all saw the difference. He would never have been among the prophets before this time. He didnt hang with that kind of men. The Spirit of God changes things. "From a Tavern to a Temple" Where the Holy Spirit dwells. 15
  16. 16. 12 Andone of the same place answered and said,But who is their father? Therefore it became aproverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?(TLB) 11-12 When his friends heard about it, theyexclaimed, "What? Saul a prophet?" And one of theneighbors added, "With a father like his?" So that isthe origin of the proverb, "Is Saul a prophet too?" 16
  17. 17. God can take the most worldly-minded man, and give him a new mindset and a heart toward God. Toward God Pleasure seekingAll he must do is submit to the Holy Spirit. 17
