Things you need to be successful in my class:
1) A pocket folder labeled with your name and ELA 11r
2) A spiral/composition notebook
3) Something to write with
4) A college dictionary(to use at home)Use of agenda to write down
5) Daily use of your agenda to write down all assignments!!
The breakdown of your English grade:
Writing:(summative) You will be graded on the progress of your writing. There
will be different types of writing pieces to complete( speeches, essays, reports)You
will be expected to complete book reviews and you will be told when they are
Notebook:(formative) Your notebook will be graded based on whether it is up to
date and complete.
Vocabulary:(formative) You will be graded on how many vocabulary assignments
are complete and acceptable.(You'll need complete sentences/definitions).
Participation:(formative) Every class period you will have and opportunity to
participate in the class. Your participation grade will be based on the following.
**Be on time to class! ( tardiness prevents you from getting important
information) Make every effort to be in class on time.
**Come to class prepared!(notebook, folder, writing utensil, and any assignments
**Participate and complete your assignments. ( Be a participant and let us know
you care about what you are learning!)
Quizzes: (Summative) We will have vocabulary, reading, and spelling quizzes
that you will be told about so you can prepare for them.
Tests : All tests given during the marking period are added to your grade as per
Albany High School grading policy.
Students are expected to make up work. If they miss an assignment it should be
on power school or check in with me. You will have until one week from the next
progress report to hand in missing work.
Rules and Expectations
Be on time! You should have a pass if you come to class late.
Come prepared with your notebook, folder, and writing utensil.
Respect yourself, your classmates, and your teachers.
Don't talk while the teacher is talking, or while your classmates are talking.
Please eat in the cafeteria. Don't bring food/drink into the classroom.
Please keep cellphones/pods in your pocket/locker.
Always try to be a productive part of class. The more you participate, the
more you learn!
If you don't follow the above rules there will be consequences for your
actions. If you forget a rule, you will get a warning. The second time, you
will be assigned detention, and receive a phone call home.
I am looking forward to working with you this year! Let's try to work
together as a group to have a positive learning environment.
If you need help with any assignments or don't understand something I
have taught in class, please let me know and I can stay after school to
