  • By end of class: Create an invitation Borders Word Art Fonts Colors Bullets ClipArt
  • Review a page from Intro to PC class
  • Introduce the Ribbon concept Have them practice clicking tabs
  • Have class open Word 2007 Review elements of the screen Have them practice scroll bars
  • Ask who has what version at home
  • Demonstrate Quick Access Toolbar and ability to add familiar icons.
  • Have them select a singe cell and see the Mini Toolbar that floats.
  • Introduce the Office Button Replaces the old “file” dropdown menu
  • Saving/Opening documents Have them save the invitation early on.
  • Explain difference in portrait vs. landscape
  • Page Layout Tab Little button on “page Setup” brings up familiar menus Have them insert a page border of their choice
  • Insert WordArt for invitation heading
  • Insert clipart of their choice Demonstrate right click and formatting the clip art so as to move around page. Demonstrate “handles” to drag the size and shape of the clipart.
  • Introduce bullets and numbers, and concept of “toggling”
  • Have them copy/paste something on their invitation and move it to another line on the invitation.
  • Discuss portable storage
  • Compare final products Take questions Allow them to experiment until time is up

    4. 4. Review: Computing Terms <ul><li>Desktop – Microsoft’s reference to the monitor screen where you visually interact with documents, games, etc. Documents and programs run on the desktop. Everything is collected and organized on the desktop. </li></ul><ul><li>Files – Collected data is saved as a file with a name to be retrieved at a later date. Can be documents, pictures, programs etc. Different types of files have different “last names” ie .doc .pdf .exe .jpg </li></ul><ul><li>Disk drives – Hardware used for data storage. Computer programs read from and write data to a hard disk drive usually named the “C Drive” and found inside the computer case. DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, floppy, and flash drives are portable drives. </li></ul><ul><li>Icon – Thumbnail picture indicating a link to a program or file </li></ul><ul><li>Keyboard – Typewriter-like keys used to type information into the computer </li></ul><ul><li>Monitor – Visual display of what is running inside the computer </li></ul><ul><li>Taskbar – Bar running across the monitor showing open files and programs, and allowing for switching between them </li></ul>
