19. 19. S elections from history of Military R&D Future
 20. 20. By US Army “ ” The nature of modern warfare demands that we fight as a joint team. … Joint Vision 2010 provides an operationally based template for the evolution of the Armed Forces for a challenging and uncertain future. … .” John M. Shalikashvili Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
 21. 21. Digital battlefield
 22. 22. By US Air Force „ Air Force 2025 ” The Air Force University conducted a study to identify the concepts, capabilities, and technologies the United States will require remain ing the dominant air and space force in the first quarter of the 21st century. The study was called Air Force 2025 .
 23. 23. Worldwide C 4 I system
 24. 24. Virtual theatre of war
 25. 25. By NMD Team The primary mission of National Missile Defense is defense of the United States (all 50 states) against a threat of a limited strategic ballistic missile attack from a rogue nation. Although intended to protect the United States only, the proposed NMD system will not work without the use of radars in Europe or in territories controlled by European countries.
 26. 26. National Missiles Defense system ( NM D )
 27. 27. First conclusion Only two type of weapons were developed, against which wasn’t effective defense !
 28. 28. Only two type of weapons were developed, against which wasn’t effective defense ! Club Nuclear weapon &
 29. 29. Defensive tool against club was frightful mask only
 30. 30. The SDI was planned as defensive tool against nuclear weapon It hasn’t been realized , but as a result the USSR collapsed
 31. 31. I developed a model for study of Military R&D , like an old model creator Universal model of military systems
 32. 32. Friendly Neutral Enemy Purpose Military system Environment Requirements , conditions Organization Human Technology Survival Result Capabilities Command, neighbours, logistics , etc. Geographical , meteorological, daytime, etc. Attack, defense Alliance, national armed forces, branches , etc. Universal model of military systems
 33. 33. Friendly Neutral Enemy Purpose Military system Environment Requirements , conditions Organization Human Technology Survival Result Capabilities Purpose of military system s must be determined by friendly environment Victory, destroying , occupation, defense , etc. … or threat, deterrent, extortion,
 34. 34. Friendly Neutral Enemy Purpose Military system Environment Requirements , conditions Organization Human Technology Survival Result Capabilities But purpose can be determinate d also by neutral environment Surviving a desert or sea storm , etc.
 35. 35. Friendly Neutral Enemy Purpose Military system Environment Requirements , conditions Organization Human Technology Survival Result Capabilities And purpose can be determinate also by enemy environment Retreat , etc.
 36. 36. Second conclusion R&D mission: to reach all the purposes of military system s
 37. 37. Friendly Neutral Enemy Purpose Military system Environment Requirements , conditions Organization Human Technology Survival Result Capabilities Retreat , etc. Victory, destroying , occupation, defense , etc. Surviving a desert or sea storm , etc. R&D mission: to reach all the purposes of military system s … or threat, deterrent, extortion,
 38. 38. Third conclusion One of main goals of R&D: to decrease danger for human in combat
 39. 39. Friendly Neutral Enemy Purpose Military system Environment Requirements , conditions Organization Human Technology Survival Result Capabilities One of main goals of R&D: to decrease danger for human in combat
 40. 40. Friendly Neutral Enemy Purpose Military system Environment Requirements , conditions Organization Human Technology Survival Result Capabilities by increasing radius of attack tools Technology One of main goals of R&D: to decrease danger for human in combat
 41. 41. Friendly Neutral Enemy Purpose Military system Environment Requirements , conditions Organization Human Technology Survival Result Capabilities by increasing effectiveness of defense tools One of main goals of R&D: to decrease danger for human in combat
 42. 42. Friendly Neutral Enemy Purpose Military system Environment Requirements , conditions Organization Human Technology Survival Result Capabilities by automation Computer One of main goals of R&D: to decrease danger for human in combat
 43. 43. Fourth conclusion The ultimate goal of R&D: to make military systems capable to reach its purpose without human participation
 44. 44. Purpose Military system Environment Requirements , conditions Organization Computer Capabilities Military robot Human Technology Friendly Neutral Enemy Human Survival Result The ultimate goal of R&D: to make military systems capable to reach its purpose without human participation
 45. 45. Fifth conclusion Role of technology in armed combat: contact two adverse systems
 46. 46. Friendly Neutral Enemy Technology Human Organization Survival Result Organization Human Technology Survival Result Reconnaissance Strikes Role of technology in armed combat: contact two adverse systems
 47. 47. If somebody remembers On the first ROBOTWARFARE conference in 2001 I presented a model like this
 48. 48. On the first ROBOTWARFARE conference in 2001 I presented a model like this Z Z v Z o V t V v C B ARMED COMBAT SYSTEM R t R v V o OBJECT ATTACKER DEFENDER I v I I k I o
 49. 49. ARMED COMBAT AS A SYSTEM Z Z v Z o V t V v C B ARMED COMBAT SYSTEM R t R v V o OBJECT ATTACKER DEFENDER I v I I k I o
 50. 50.

T he Attacker against the Object and it ’ s Defender are related in combat as close as two subsystems of a big-system .

Resources of the combat-activity (R t or R v ) are the inputs , and the losses (V t or V v and V o ) are the outputs .

T he relationship between the components are :

reconnaissance (I or C)

and strikes (Z or B) .

Consequently, the two subsystems form an independent big-system, which is the Armed Combat System itself as such.

This model includes all specifics of a cybernetic system , and that’s why we are able to analyze Combat with adequate and rich cybernetic tools.

The basic ideas of my Armed Combat model are the followings:
 51. 51. Reviewing the past: I put some question s for myself in 2003

When two armed forces did really engage using comparable military technology?

1975, in Vietnam War !

Which two antagonistic superpowers had comparable military technology, and when?

USA and USSR in 1991!

 52. 52. That’s why I try: how does my new model work if technology level of two system s isn’t comparable ? Fifth conclusion
 53. 53. Armed combat, if technology level isn’t comparable Friendly Neutral Enemy Technology Human Organization Survival Result Organization Human Technology Survival Result Reconnaissance Strikes
 54. 54. Armed combat, i f technology level isn’t comparable Friendly Neutral Enemy Survival Result Reconnaissance Strikes Kamikaze type Technology Human Organization Organization Human Technology Survival Result
 55. 55. Armed combat, i f technology level isn’t comparable Organization Human Technology Technology Human Organization Friendly Neutral Enemy Survival Result Survival Result Reconnaissance Strikes Yugoslavia type
 56. 56. Armed combat, i f technology level isn’t comparable Friendly Neutral Enemy Technology Human Organization Survival Result Organization Human Technology Survival Result Reconnaissance Strikes Guerilla type
 57. 57. If somebody remembers On the second ROBOTWARFARE conference in 2002 I formulated a question: How can we compare different input and output parameters of the Armed Combat System?
 58. 58. by value! Compare My answer was:
 59. 59. … and the proposed value-model of the Armed Combat System was

Where:

K(R t ), K(R v ) – material and moral value of resources

K(V t ), K(V v ) – material and moral value of losses

K(I+Z), K(C+B) – material and moral value used for getting information or for strikes resources

K(V t ) K(C+B) ARMED COMBAT SYSTEM K(R t ) ATTACKER DEFENDER K(I+Z) K(R v ) K(V v )
 60. 60. Reviewing the past: I put a question for myself in 2003 W hat does the phrase „MATERIAL AND MORAL VALUE ” mean for terrorist organizations ?
 61. 61. Reviewing the past: I put a question s for myself in 2003 W hat does the phrase „MATERIAL AND MORAL VALUE ” mean for terrorist organizations ?
 62. 62. That’s why I try: how does my new model work , if military system is a terrorist organization ? Sixth conclusion
 63. 63. Role of technology in terrorist systems Human Survival Strikes Reconnaissance Friendly Neutral Enemy Technology Human Organization Survival Result
 64. 64. A special case of state terrorism is the coup, when military system has its own goal Friendly Neutral Enemy Technology Human Organization Survival Result Human Survival Reconnaissance Strikes
 65. 65. Ultimate conclusion This model of military systems is universal, because it is suitable for study :
 66. 66. This model of military systems is universal, because it is suitable for study :

any level of military systems

coherence among human, technology and organization subsystems

influence of different purposes for military system s

armed combat, if technology level of sides isn’t comparable

r ole of technology in terrorist military system
