An accomplished archaeologist who has worked on projects for state governments and private
companies, Dr. R. Christopher Goodwin is the founder and CEO of R. Christopher Goodwin &
Associates, Inc. Based in New Orleans with offices in several other states, R. Christopher Goodwin,
PhD, led a interdisciplinary team of preservation specialists and researchers that successfully
nominated various historical properties in Connecticut to the National Register of Historic Places.

One of the houses evaluated and nominated to the National Register was the Dr. Mary B. Moody
House in New Haven. The house was officially listed in the National Register on May 1, 2017. In
addition to serving as an example of Late Victorian Gothic style architecture, the Dr. Mary B. Moody
House is significant because of its occupant, one of the first female doctors in New Haven.

Dr. Moody also was the first woman to graduate from the University of Buffalo’s medical school and
the first woman to gain entry to the American Association of Anatomists. Defying the gender norms of
the time, Dr. Moody served as a physician and advocate for women and girls throughout her
