WORLD SCENARIO <ul><li>1 in every 5 is an adolescent </li></ul><ul><li>About 1.2 billion adolescents 85% live in developing countries </li></ul><ul><li>1.7 million of them loose their lives mostly due to accidents, suicide, violence, pregnancy related complications & other illnesses that are preventable or treatable </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>India has largest population of teenagers </li></ul><ul><li>over 190 million representing over 20% of total population. </li></ul><ul><li>According to National Family Health Survey 1998-99 16.4% of all women in age group 15-19 years have at least one child ever born. </li></ul>

  12. 12. India <ul><li>Has the highest level of violence in the home against women married at age of ≤18 </li></ul><ul><li>70% of those surveyed had experienced beating. </li></ul><ul><li>Such women are more likely to believe that husband might be justified in beating the wife. </li></ul>
