Climate Challenge• Himalayas, the Third Pole’, contains the largest store of freshwater in the world after the North & South Poles• These ‘Water Towers’ are the main source of freshwater for almost a third of the world’s population• But global warming threatens to put an end to this. With mountain glaciers rapidly melting and catastrophic floods increasing in frequency, climate change is putting ecosystems & communities at risk in the most heavily populated part of the world
  5. 5. Why Crawl-Walk-Run?• Trying to stop climate change or reversing it, might seem like an impossible task. A select few cant do anything, but if there is a mass movement at a micro level involving citizens of the world, we just might have a chance • Its not planet Earth that needs to be saved, its species homo-sapiens on it that do• Start with MOVING yourself & getting your loved ones to do the same• Remember, "No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch"
  6. 6. Why CO2 Route? • The earliest cave paintings date b a c k 3 2 , 0 0 0 y e a rs . O n e interpretation of them suggests that the cave people wanted to visualize their challenges before leaving the cave to confront them • Modern times biggest challenge is to reduce emission of CO2 gases

History• CO2 E-Race (Erase CO2 – A Race for Climate Awareness) was initiated in 2008 by Danish Cultural Institute as an Art and Climate Awareness Project in preparation for UN’s Global Climate Change Conference COP15• To promote environmentally sustainable climate solutions it was decided to use as inspiration some of the earliest known human art

Organized by founders of• La Ultra - The High: Worlds highest altitude & toughest ultra-marathon: • 222 km run in Leh - Ladakh region, crossing worlds highest motor-able mountain pass, Khardung La (17,700 ft) with an oxygen content of just 33% of that at sea level with 60 hr cut-off • Pushes mind & body to absolute limit & redefines what is humanly possible• Back 2 Fitness: Chain of sports & exercise rehabilitation centres that aims at • Helping people from all walks of life get back to the physical activity they enjoy doing most • By helping them use their bodies optimally

Collaboration with• CO2 Green Drive (CGD), an organization embedded in the Danish Cultural Institute have collaborated with us in pursuing an agenda of sustainability, development and climate awareness in India • Cities involved: 2009: Milan, Riga and Copenhagen; 2010: Riga, Roskilde, Vilnius and Milan; 2011: Parma, Urbino, New York & Copenhagen; 2012: Confirmed - New York, Dakar, Yokohama & Bangalore. Tbc - Rome, Santiago and Horsens (Denmark)• Centre for Social Market: CSM is an independent, non-profit organization promoting entrepreneurship for the triple bottom line – people, planet and prosperity.
