  5. 5. A Day in Emergency Department As a trainee
  6. 6. A LATE shift duty Reporting to ED lead (Consultant) ● Seeing patient ● Arranging CT head / trauma ● Reviewing bloods and XRAYs ● Coffee ● Procedures, USS, chest drain ● Chest pain, Pneumothorax, shoulder reduction, AAA, fascia iliaca block, Trauma call, Crazy patient! ED never sleeps!
  7. 7. Training in Emergency Medicine
  8. 8. Emergency Medicine Training EM is a 6 years training. Starts at CT/ST1 and finishes at ST6. RCEM offers run through training! FRCEM have to be finished before becoming consultant / finishing of training. LTFT option is open for EM training.
  9. 9. As IMG how & at which level training can be started? ● From CT/ST1 (full 6 years training) - offers CCT ● DREEAM from extended ST3 (5 years training) - offers CESR CP ● From ST4 (3 years training) - offers CESR CP

From CT/ST1 (full 6 years training) ● training starts as a Run Through or coupled training where ● first 2 years trainee will rotate into Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, Anaesthetics and critical care 6 monthly per rotation. ● Rotational first 2 years are known as ACCS. ● Following ACCS rotation, trainee will return as ST3 in Emergency Medicine. ● If run through, then will go to ST4 if all the requirements are fulfilled during ST3.
  11. 11. DREEAM from extended ST3 (5 years training) ● enters as ST3 Emergency Medicine ● Rotation in EM, AM, Anaesthetic and ITU but not as long as ACCS; 1 year rotation and another year in EM. ● finishing of successful ST3 level rotation, trainee does ST4 to ST6
  12. 12. From ST4 (3 years training) ● Can directly starts as ST4 ● 3 years training ● On completion of training and FRCEM exam, gets CESR CP and become eligible as Consultant.

How to Prepare For Portfolio? ● Having a rcem e portfolio is a great help here, you can easily show your achievements and clinical activities through printed version of portfolio ● MRCEM or FRCEM examination (passed or even new application bears value) ● Presentation with documented feedback are important ● Presentation needs an acknowledgement document form the organising platform (it could be even departmental to international) ● Any publication (or poster presentation) is important ● Working with other association (even from student time) and act as organiser are very important (they will find this skill for there next consultants) ● Extra curricular activity (anything and everything you can put, I even put my google map exploring with google map local guide status and my non english health blog with my technological review blog as well!) ● ALS, ATLS, APLS up-to-date certificates needs to be there as of great importance and any course or conferences attended needs to be there. ● Specialty specific seminars
