FTE Staffing norms should be known:eg : for every 15 beds : 1 SNtherefore for 24hrs: for every 15 beds need(24/8) x1= 3 SN Workload (full) : 40 beds Workforce factors = (40/15) = 2.67 Therefore SN requirement for 40 bedded wards usingfactor = 3x 2.67x 1.304=10.445 or 10 SN SN requirement based on BOR 72% = 0.72x 10= 7.2 SNor 7 SNCONCLUSIONFor a 40 bedded ward with nursing norms of 1SN : 15pts and BOR of 72% , the management will need 7SN
  8. 8. SAMPLE CALCULATIONSYou need to calculate staffing needs for a HDU with 12 bedsand BOR of 85%. Norms given :1 SN : 4 patients1 PPK : 8 patientsCalculation :SN required =3x (12/4)x1.304 x 0.85 =9.9756 or 10 SNPPK required = 3x (12/8) x1.304x0.85 =4.9878 or 5 PPK
