The splenic vein runs behind the neck of the pancreas and in front of the inferior vena cava. It is typically 3 inches long and 0.8-1.2 cm in diameter with a pressure of 7-11 mmHg. It receives blood from the right gastric vein, left gastric vein, paraumbilical vein, pancreatic veins, and cystic vein before joining the superior mesenteric vein to form the portal vein.
