  3. 3. Transactional Leadership <ul><li>Lead people based on what they can do for you or the organization </li></ul><ul><li>People are motivated by reward and punishment. </li></ul><ul><li>Social systems work best with a clear chain of command. </li></ul><ul><li>When people have agreed to do a job, a part of the deal is that they surrender all authority to their manager. </li></ul><ul><li>The prime purpose of a subordinate is to do what their manager tells them to do. </li></ul>

Transformational Leadership <ul><li>People will follow a person who inspires them. </li></ul><ul><li>Care about people and want them to succeed. </li></ul><ul><li>A person with vision and passion can achieve great things. </li></ul><ul><li>The way to get things done is by injecting enthusiasm and energy. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Discussion Questions <ul><li>In small groups, give examples of persons (without the names) you have worked with that are transactional leaders and transformational leaders. </li></ul>

Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.&quot; </li></ul>
