FACTS Founded June 6, 1946, in New York. Recent Champions: Dallas Mavericks(1) Most titles: Boston Celtics ( 17) Basketball is one of the four major American sports. First game to be played was in Toronto, Canada on November 1, 1946. In 1998 NBA Finals was the most watched championship series in NBA history. Number of total teams: 30  29 In the U.S.  1 team in Canada

SEASONS Training camps begin September.  Find out teams strength & weaknesses. Pre-Season Begins in October, Following with the regular season in the last week of October. In February the season pauses to host the annual NBA All- Star games. Between April the season ends, following begins the Playoffs. The last two teams play in the NBA Finals.  The final playoff round, a best-of-seven series between the victors of both conferences, is known as the NBA Finals, and is held annually in June

BOSTON CELTICS Team based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1946. From 1957 to 1969, the Celtics dominated the league winning 11 championships in 13 years, and eight in a row, the longest consecutive championship streak of any American sports team. Hall of Famers which include Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Larry Bird In 1950, the Celtics became the first franchise to draft an African American player, signing Chuck Cooper. The ―Big Three‖ are Paul Pierce, Ray Allen & Kevin Garnett.

CHICAGO BULLS Team based in Chicago, Illinois. The team was founded in 1966. All six of those championship teams were led by Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and coach Phil Jackson. During the 1990s, the Bulls helped spread the popularity of the NBA around the world. Once Michael Jordan arrived the Bulls won 6 championships in 8 years. 1994-2004 have been difficult years for the Bulls since Jordan’s retirement. In 2008 they drafted MVP Derrick Rose. Bulls have a tradition of wearing black shoes during the playoffs, which goes all the way back to 1989. 20 achievement/awards in categories. The ―Big Three‖ are Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer, & Joakim Noah.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS Team Based in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1947 Most successful team in history. Second most valuable NBA franchise, estimating to a value of $643 million. Total of 23 Hall of Famers. Lakers and Celtics have been called the best rivalry in the NBA meeting a total of 12 times. 1999-2004 was the O’Neal, Bryant, & Jackson era. 2007- 2011 the Lakers return to the championships. The ―Big Three‖ are Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum, and Pau Gasol.

DALLAS MAVERICKS Team based in Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1980. Sixth most valuable team franchise , valuing approximately $438 million. In the early years they never really made it to the playoffs, because of dominance from the Lakers. Best season was in 2006-07, winning 67 games, & earning NBA’s best record. 2011 playoffs they swept the Lakers with a 4-0 win. Later winning 4-2 in the Finals against Heat. Dirk Nowitzki has been selected to play in the NBA All-Star team 10 times. The ―Big Three‖ are Dirk Nowitzi,, Jason Terry, & Jason Kidd.

The NBA and its teams support a range of programs, partners and initiatives that strive to positively impact children and families worldwide. Since October 2005 when NBA Cares was launched, the league and teams have raised more than $160 million for charity, provided more than 1.7 million hours of hands-on service, and built more than 610 places where kids and families can live, learn or play in communities around the world.

NBA LOCKOUT 2011 Fourth lockout in the history of the NBA. It began on July 1, 2011. The main issues dividing the owners and the players are because the players and owners don’t want to settle on money. Saying that they wont go lower then 52.5% During the lockout, teams cannot trade, sign or contact players and players cannot access NBA team facilities, trainers or staffs. All preseason games and the first four weeks of the 2011–12 season through November 30, 2011, have already been cancelled. Some players have signed contracts to play in other countries, and most have the option to return to the NBA as soon as the lockout ends. The lockout will remain in effect until the NBPA reaches a deal with the NBA owners.

IMPACT NBA League lost about $200 million cancelling the preseason. As of October 25, an estimated 400 NBA jobs have been lost due to layoffs and attrition since the lockout—around 200 in the league office and another 200 among the 30 teams. Players  The cancellation of each month of the season costs the players around $350 million in lost pay.  More than 75 players have agreed to play overseas.  Some agreed to play for the Chinese League, which means they wont come back until the season is over.  Some agreed to play for European teams  Others have stayed in America & made theyre own team ―The Lockout League‖  Players such as JJ Barea Renaldo Belkman, & Carlos Arroyo decided to play for Puerto Rico.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBAFLt8lFJ8
