Saigon’s historic clock tower and ben thanh market by douglas ebenstein

  1. 1. A well-established Florida and Northern Virginia entrepreneur, Douglas Ebenstein has led Capital Commercial Properties, Inc., for nearly three decades. Doug Ebenstein is also the longtime president of Eden Center, Inc., and has spearheaded the shopping center’s emergence as a dynamic group of malls with more than 120 stores. The complex is popular with the area’s Asian and particularly Vietnamese communities and contains the landmark Eden Center Clock Tower. This intricately crafted tower is an exact replica of the historic clock tower found in central Saigon (now officially Ho Chi Minh City).
  2. 2. Located at the entrance to the Ben Thanh market, the Saigon clock tower is housed in a colonial building built by the French in 1912. The market itself dates back to the 1600s and has been recognized as Vietnam’s largest market. Available items include clothes, antiques, electronics, and tourist gifts, with active bargaining a must. In the evening the night market opens up and spills over onto neighboring streets, with the fragrant smell of restaurant stalls making it a must for culinary adventurers. The Eden Center is a community-focused institution that organizes a number of traditional Vietnamese events, including the annual Moon festival and the Tet festival.
