HISTORY OF MY VILLAGE

My village’s name is Emmanouil Pappas , the old name was Dovista. It is located in the north of Greece and 17Km east of the city of Serres in the foots of the Menikio mountain. It took his name after the general Emmanouil Pappas who fought and died in the revolution against the Turks in 1821.

ABOUT DARNAKOXORIA In the village there are 800 people but in summer our number rises to 1500. Our village and other four, Pantapoli, Agio Pneuma, Chruso and Neo souli are called ‘’Darnakochoria’’. There are many theories about the name ‘’Darnakas’’ but no one of this is sure.
LOCAL EVENTS

We have many local events but the people of the village prefer the church celebrations who we call ‘’panigiria’’. One of this ΄΄ panigiria ΄΄ is the celebration in the Agio Dimitrio. This monastery is 1Km north from our village and every year in the spring we have celebration

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

One tourist attraction is the old school which was built in the 1906 and was the first school in the village. Not it works as a museum

LOCAL EVENTS Neosouliotes organize events many times a year. In spring, for example, the locals of Neo Souli are celebrating the St.George day, in the yard of St. George church. This event represents the time when St.George killed the dragon, a huge creature, that had been terrifying the villagers. Another event is this of the 15 th August. All the villagers are gathered at the square of n. souli and give honor to the name of panagia in many ways
TOURIST ATTRACTION In conclusion, the village of n. souli is a remarkable place for visitors. Tourists may go there and see its beauty and admire the culture and the believes and tradition of neosouliotes
