  1. 1. Global Beverage Survey 2012–2013: Industry Dynamics, Market Trends andOpportunities, Buyer Spend and Procurement StrategiesThe report provides data and analysis on buyer expenditure, procurement, anddevelopments within the global beverage manufacturers’ industry. This report includes keytopics such as global beverage manufacturers’ industry expenditure, and procurementbehaviors and strategies. This report identifies the threats and opportunities within theglobal beverage manufacturing industry, economic outlook trends, and business confidencewithin global beverage manufacturer industry executives. Most secondary research reportsare based on general industry drivers and do not understand the industry executives’attitude and changing behaviors, creating a gap in presenting the business outlook of theindustry. In an effort to bridge this gap, Canadean created this primary-research basedreport by gathering the opinions of multiple stake holders in the value-chain of the globalbeverage manufacturers’ industry.Executives from global beverage manufacturer companies expect some increase in levels ofconsolidation in their industry over the next 12 months, with 46% of respondentsanticipating at least some increase in M&A activity. Furthermore, 42% of respondentsexpect ‘no change’ in M&A activity over the next 12 months. However, the expectations ofconsolidation levels among the global beverage manufacturer respondents has diminishedby 15 percentage points in comparison to 2011, and nine percentage points in comparisonto 2010.Projections of relatively stagnant consolidation levels in 2012 are a direct repercussion ofincessant M&A activity during the second and third quarter of 2011, such as the Coca-ColaFEMSA merger with Grupo Tampico, Mexico, in June 2011, and Heineken’s acquisition of twoEthiopian breweries, Bedele and Harar in August 2011. In addition, respondents whoanticipate some increase in consolidation levels highlight reasons such as the need tomanage new cost or demand pressures, repay debts, comply with procedures, reduceoperational expenses, and attain economies of scale. This report provides data and analysis on category-level spending outlooks, budgets, supplier selection criteria, business challenges, and investment opportunities of leadingpurchase decision makers in the global beverage manufacturing industry.
