parents, Michael and
Yumiko. They were
married in 2000. My
father was born in
1977 and my mother
in 1978

This is my sister,
Lily, she is 4
years old. She
was born in
Hanoi, Vietnam.
7. Other Relatives
These are my
aunts, uncles and
cousins. They all
live in the United
States. I have
three uncles and
four aunts and
fifteen cousins.
8. Family Recipe
This is my Aunt Junko’s okonomiyaki
(Japanese pancake) recipe. When we
go to her house we cook it on the
table and have a good time.
Ingredients for one pancake
Cooked bacon 2-3strips cut into small pieces
Cabbage 3/4 cup shredded
A few prawns
Baking powder 1 teaspoon
Cake flour 4 tablespoons
Salt 1/6 teaspoon
Chopped green onion 1/2 cup
Water 3 tablespoons
Egg 1
9. Artifact
Hibachi
This is a small charcoal brazier called a
hibachi in Japanese. This hibachi was my
great-great grandfather’s. He gave it to my
grandfather after the war. They used to
use it to cook yakitori but now we use it as
a table. Sometimes, at New Year, we use
it to cook mochi.
10. Family Event
My mother, father, grandmother and brother went to
Hawaii last summer. We went to the beach and
snorkeled. My brother almost drowned but my
grandmother saved him. He is still alive. We had a
