Super Saving and FPU Introduction Handout Fall 2011

  1. 1. Why Did Zions Create OurEliminate Needless Debt (END) Program?• Utah had consistently ranked #1 in bankruptcy rate in the nation (#9 for 2010 and Idaho is #17).• More people saving more money supports more loans to businesses to grow our economy.
  2. 2. What the END Program is Not . . .• It is not exclusively for people seriously in debt• It is not a debt consolidation program• It is not a consumer credit counseling g type service• It is not a quick fix program• It does not require people t b k at d t i l to bank t Zions
  3. 3. What the END Program is . . .• An educational program for anyone that wants to save more, eliminate needless debt, and build wealth• A free Super Saving Seminar sponsor• A sponsor of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU)• A sponsor of a $1,000 Emergency Fund Savings Account Drawing• A sponsor of Financial Peace curriculum used at over 100 Utah high schools• Special offers on Zions Bank products (optional)• Program is also available in Spanish
  4. 4. What is Financial Peace University?• The most effective personal finance course in America• Nationwide, the average family adds $ , , g y $2,700 to savings and reduces debts by $5,300 in 91 days• This is an educational program, not a sales program• FPU is a two hours a week, 13-week course that teaches people the skills they need to save like they never have before, eliminate needless debt, and build wealth with a goal of giving a lot of it away to worthy causes.• Founder Dave Ramsey is the host of a daily radio program with over 4.5 million weekly li t ith 4 5 illi kl listeners andd his own daily cable TV program on the Fox Business Network. Both deal with personal finance issues.
  5. 5. Major FPU Results• 1,000,000+ nationwide enrollments including more than 30,000 partici- p pants in nearly 1,000 Zions supported classes (mostly hosted by area y pp ( y y churches) since 2003.• Average household paid off $5,300 in debt• Average household added $2,700 to savings• Average of 2+ credit cards cut up per household – One local household cut up 56 credit cards!• 70%-80% graduation rate• 0% dissatisfaction rate• Long term results from Zions Bank’s own employee participants: – $15,600 average added to non-retirement savings – $ $16,300 average of debts paid off – 6.2% average increase in 401K contributions from 38% of employees

  13. 13. What Employers Think ofthe END Program and FPU• “I am pleased to report that we paid off $7,506 of debt and put $1,000 in the bank. The last day of class was our 16th wedding anniversary. So we went around to three of our creditors and paid off the debts and then went out to eat (for the first time in several weeks) and celebrated the accomplishment. Yahoo!!!” Anonymous Senior Business Manager• “Aero Technologies Group has had over 125 employees participate in FPU. Ive heard many positive comments from excited employees who seem to have found an effective method of getting their financial houses in order. I feel this is one of the most meaningful and appreciated benefits we g pp have provided for our employees. Many employees have said that they want their children to learn these principles so that they wont make the same mistakes as their parents.” Mike Colledge, Director of Human Resources Aero Technologies G A T h l i Group
  14. 14. What Employers Think ofthe END Program and FPU (cont ) (cont.)• “The most important thing that came out of this is that my wife and I can talk about money without animosity or arguing. Our relationship is getting better as each debt gets closer to payment payment. “Getting out of debt safely and sanely is really, really, important, it ranks in importance with your personal health and that of your family. Dave is working to save the families of America.” Layne Hadley, AMT Labs• “We thought the class was tremendous, in fact we took it with our daughter and son-in-law We had 2 other employees who were son-in-law. struggling with money issues take the FPU classes who feel they have a new vision and plan for their finances. We would like to volunteer our facility for a new class. Thanks for the invitation. This is tremendous information.” information Ken Riches, Pres / CEO, Beacon Metals Inc
  15. 15. What Churches are Saying aboutFinancial Peace University• “The FPU seminar was extremely practical and well worth our time and effort to host. Dave Ramsey is an excellent speaker and clearly has a passion for helping people gain financial freedom. Im sure my church members and others who attended benefited greatly from the seminar and we will do it again! again!” – Bernie Anderson, Wasatch Hills Seventh-Day Adventist Church• “The response we are getting from participants is tremendous. I strongly encourage pastors to use this valuable resource to help teach their members how to be good stewards of their money.” – Dale Jumpp, New Life Christian Fellowship, Tooele• “In my ward at the time this class began there were five families receiving assistance. All five were enrolled in FPU. At the end of the course and at present four of the five families are off welfare assistance. Two of the families suffered from underemployment and have both found additional or upgraded jobs due to the information and motivation obtained in the FPU cou se ast y, o course. Lastly, from a sp tua pe spect e, those sa e families a e now faithful in pay g t e spiritual perspective, t ose same a es are o a t u paying their tithes and offerings which, obviously, brings additional blessings and strength to their families and marriages. Financial Peace gives you the tools to financially change your life.” – John Hollingshead, LDS Centerville South Stake

  20. 20. Selected Participant Comments RegardingProgram• Financial Peace University saved our marriage (and our money!).• I have restructured many financial aspects of my life, which I already felt I had figured out. It has reinforced my philosophy which has always been save plan out save, plan, and give. I now am doing this all more aggressively.• The one area in our marriage we struggled with was finances. After attending and applying the principles taught, a wonderful marriage was made even more perfect. It is so comforting to now have a plan. Some of the best time we have ever spent "investing" in our family was the thirteen weeks here Thank you here. you.• This class has changed the way I look at my monthly surplus. Ive learned it is not something extra to be spent. It needs to be saved.• It has opened our eyes to how we spend our money. I feel much safer following this plan. We have opened our communication lines and have a much better relationship.• Got us on a budget so we can see where our money goes. Shows us how to get out of debt and stay out. And how to retire more comfortably. We have become more aware of our money and where it is going. This allows us to pinpoint the areas we can save I really gives you "peace of mind " save. peace mind.• For me, most of what I have learned I have passed on to my kids who are just starting out. I wish I had this class 30 years ago. We would be a lot better off today.
  21. 21. Selected Participant Comments RegardingProgram (2)• We have finally found a complete system for personal finance. I can now feel confident in my financial responsibilities, that I know nothing is being left out.• It has given us a focus and a real plan. All our other "plans" have not seemed to get us anywhere.• This has made the biggest impact in our marriage and partnership with finances. Before I did the finances alone and my husband was always upset at why we never had enough money. Now we are more together or completely together on our money budgeting and knowledge of where the money goes.• We have less stress, enjoy life more and are paying debts off faster.• Financial Peace University has shown us that there is hope; that we can and will get out of debt.• We have worked into a family budget that we had not done yet in our marriage (13 years). We have a common vision of how and where we want our money to work for us. We have an irregular income and now a method to procure our own wealth.• Reduced much anger, resentment, tension.• We have a working budget We have cash savings and we are done borrowing $ budget. $.• A huge impact! We have financial hope and peace. We now know what to do and how to do it. I am anxious to spread this to my family and friends.
