  2. 2. In Peloponnesus, south of Greece, wewillfind Mount Cyllene in thecity of Mycenae.<br />Itseemsthat in Mount Cyllene a hugeflock of birdsdecidedtotakerefuge at StymphalianMarsh. Thesebirdshadbrasswings, beaks, claws and man – eaters.<br />
  3. 3. ThekingnamedEurystheussenthisbest and skilfularchersto try togetrid of thesebirds. As thedayspassed King Eurystheusarcherswereuseless and returnedempty – handed.<br />ThekingdecidedtocallforHercules, son of Zeus whowasthegreatestgod of AncientGreece, togetrid of thebirds. <br />
  4. 4. Hercules set forhisjourney, withhisbow and arrowsacrosshis back. When he arrived at Mount Cyllene, Herculessuddenlyrealizedthedificulty of movingaroundthemarsh. <br />
  5. 5. Before he couldgetdisappointed, Athenegoddess of Wisdom, gaveHercules a bigbrassrattle and toldhimtoshakeit at the top of thecliff.<br />Herculesclimbed up tothe top of thecliff, fromthoseheights he couldseethebirds in themarsh.<br />
  6. 6. He thenshooktherattlewithallhispower. Thebirdsthenbegantoscreech and flyintothesky. Herculestookhisbow and arrows and begantoshoot as manybirds as he could.<br />Therest of thebirdsfleedquickly.<br />Herculesstayed at themountain a couple of days in case thebirdsreturned.<br />
  7. 7. Herculeswent back toMycenae in triumph. Thebirdswerelastseenbythe argonauts in the Isle of Ares in the Black Sea.<br />
