  2. 3. <ul><li>Galicia is a Spanish region with almost 3 million citizens situated in the North-West of Spain and north of Portugal. It has its own government and parliament. </li></ul><ul><li>In Galicia, everyone speaks Spanish, but it also has its own language called Galician. </li></ul>
  3. 4. <ul><li>Santiago is the capital of Galicia. </li></ul><ul><li>For centuries Catholics were pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. Nowadays many people make “El camino de Santiago&quot; walking or cycling and it is a tourist and religious route. </li></ul><ul><li>The Cathedral of Santiago is one of the best known monuments of Europe and the most representative of Galicia. </li></ul>
  4. 5. About 8 km from my hometown is the center of the city of A Coruña. This city has about 250,000 citizens and has an airport, a football stadium called “Riazor”, shopping malls, cinemas, a port ( with tankers, cruise ships and sport boats), a Symphony Orchestra, museums, etc …
  5. 6. <ul><li>The most important monument in the city is “La Torre de Hercules“, which last year was declared a World Heritage Site. </li></ul><ul><li>It is the oldest operating lighthouse in the world. </li></ul>

About Oleiros <ul><li>Oleiros is a municipality in A Coruña (Galicia). </li></ul><ul><li>It’s very near to the City of A Coruña. </li></ul><ul><li>It’s economy is based on services, small shops, fishing,etc. </li></ul><ul><li>The name of “Oleiros” comes from the word “Ollarios”, which means “Potters” </li></ul>

  12. 13. <ul><li>We study at “I. E. S. María Casares”, a public school in Oleiros. </li></ul><ul><li>Our school is located 1km from the center of Santa Cruz, a little village in Oleiros. </li></ul><ul><li>The entrance of the school is painted in many colors. </li></ul>
  13. 14. <ul><li>I.E.S. María Casares was built in 1992, only eighteen years ago. It’s next to a creek which separates the school from a forest. </li></ul><ul><li>The school is named in honor of a Galician </li></ul><ul><li>actress who acted in French theaters between 1952 and 1954. </li></ul>
