  2. - Use Differentiate Participation Handout - Get a hand count of each breakdown while they process the handout
  3. Do poll in CoverItLive or with hand-raises for speed.
  4. Quick overview of the Tech4DI wiki and the resources available. Explain that it is a public wiki that anyone may edit, and they are welcome to use it for PD in their own schools and districts.
  5. While showing Flickr slide show of twins, ask how many have had twins in their classroom? How many sets of twins were identical? Assuming some raised their hands, ask if they were ultimately able to tell them apart -- and how? Get to the point that they were not 100% identical -- there are differences even between identical twins
  6. What colors do you see? (should just get “orange” as the response)
  7. What colors are the leaves of this tree? (may get orange and yellow, maybe brown)
  8. What colors do you see now? (may get additional colors -- brown, blue, green, red)
  9. What colors do you see now? (gray, tan, maroon, various shades of yellow and orange) All are from the same photo -- first a blurred version, then the original photo, then a close-up, and finally this is fully zoomed to see each individual pixel. What initially appeared to be one color can now be seen to be a wide range of colors. We just had to drill down to see the individual pixels. Do we always see the students in our classrooms as individuals, or do we sometimes see them as an undifferentiated group? Our session today is about the symbiotic relationship between technology and differentiated instruction to provide the best possible learning environment for our students -- each and every one of them.
  10. Stages of Adoption were developed to describe adult adoption of innovative technologies. Is there relevance to differences among students relative to tech use?
  11. How can technology help differentiate instruction? Because with technology there are so many ways to accomplish any given task. Think of just about any common productivity application like Word or a creativity application like Photoshop or even a web browser like Firefox -- you can probably think quickly of several tasks or actions within any one of these that can be accomplished in more than one way -- often in several ways.

  66. Then think of the proliferation of Web 2.0 tools. This is a representation of Go2Web20 -- a website that catalogs Web 2.0 applications, websites, and online tools. Currently there are over 3,000 listed! Quite a few of these do similar tasks. Take blogging for an example -- you are probably familiar with Blogger, Edublogs, and Wordpress, but there are many more blogging tools than these three. Wikipedia identifies 16 developer-hosted platforms (e.g., Blogger) and 24 free, open-source software packages available to run blogs (on your own domain website, for instance). So one way technology can help differentiate instruction is by providing ample choices of how to accomplish an educational task -- primarily involving Process, but also Product to some extent.
