  5. 5. The problem:<br />Buy me<br />Buy me<br />Buy me<br />Problem: scientists buy lots of stuff but its hard to know what stuff to buy…<br />
  6. 6. Is it really?<br />2010<br />Question: We think this is a big problem but does anybody else?<br />
  7. 7. What the hell, I gave up a permanent job!<br />Hired…<br />The answer was yes so we hired a “maker of tech.”<br />
  8. 8. 5 months…<br />After this we spent a bit of time going round in circles and up blind alleys…<br />
  9. 9. 2011<br />scrazzl v.1 is born…<br />
  10. 10. 5 Lessons learned...<br />That’s our story to date now here are some hard lessons we learned along the way…<br />
  11. 11. #1 Don’t make it, fake it…<br />Technology is easy, its getting people to pay for technology that’s hard. Show customers early and listen to what they say…<br />

  13. 13. #2 Talk to customers who matter…<br />
  14. 14. Avoid<br />Reality check #1: we live in a global economy don’t waste your time with links in a global chain.<br />
  15. 15. #3 Hire champions<br />Reality check #2: people invest in people, ideas are secondary…<br />
  16. 16. Even if you have to give a bit away…<br />Seriously, hire the best you can find, even if you have to sell the family jewels…<br />
  17. 17. #4 Discuss with everyone…<br />Ideas are not static they evolve and talking to people will only help…<br />
  18. 18. Even granny…<br />Make sure to constantly refine your value proposition…<br />

  20. 20. Life in a start-up is crazy so don’t go crazy. Look after yourself and find something apart from work that you love doing…<br />
