  • Welcome – my name is Irene and I want to tell you about the hottest trend - Team Coaching. Team Coaching is not traditional training, where a consultant comes in, shares information – then leaves . The training was great, but how far does it go? I know what you are thinking – what’s the return on my investment if my staff don’t put into practice hat they learned? That’s the beauty of Team Coaching – it’s an on-going process that is focussed on results, getting people to actually work together and see each others strengths. Team coaching is about encouraging individuals to dig down and use the resources that they have to do a better job of what they are doing.
  • Chances are that if you work in a corporate environment, coaching employees is very much a part of your Performance Management process. Most companies have a coaching climate that is focussed on employee improvement and results. Problem is, are Team Leaders and Supervisors fully knowledgeable about coaching techniques, and taking coaching from a ‘fix the problem’ approach to really tapping into what the root cause of the issue is? Leaders and managers who work with a coach and are coached, will find that they will easily be able to coach their own employees in a different way – there will be a switch in perspective from trying to fix people and problems to a co-creative method of improving performance
  • Co-Creative coaching assumes that the person is whole and resourceful – people are not broken they are whole and have the answers to success within themselves. In order for coaching to be ‘magical’, meaning that is really changing behaviour and getting results an atmosphere of trust and mutual support must be fostered. Coaching is a conversation that is focussed on the person being coached, what they bring to the table and how the skills and strengths they have can be brought to play in the workplace. It’s about working on what’s good, exploring new ways of doing and being, and looking at possibilities for improvement. Coaching is also about creating accountability structures to achive maximum results.
  • Ask yourself these questions... Do my Team Leads/Supervisors take full accountability for the results of their teams? Are they more focussed on what they perceive to be outside impacts on results? Do I see improvements over the short haul but not on a consistent basis? Training programs delver on short haul results but not long term improvement. Are my Team Leaders afraid to coach? Are they hesitant to have those difficult conversations with employees – how deep does their coaching go – is telling only? Do my Team Leaders know how to spot performance and behaviour issues by looking at data provided? Are my team leaders fully engaged with their staff? If you answered yes to any of these questions team coaching is for you.
  • Team Leaders today have a lot expected of them, they must continually grow and learn – here are some typical competencies expected: Decision Making Team Development Strategic Planning Managing Change Results Communication Customer Service Risk Taking Creating an environment that supports their goals will help them focus more on results.
  • Coaching Bootcamp – a course for Team Leaders to understand the communication styles of their staff and to learn techniques to communicate more effectively. Coach the Coach program - taking coaching from a ‘fix the problem’ technique to fully exploring how to change behaviour. Data Mining – a customized course on how to mine data to pinpoint performance issues. One on One Coaching – work on your own personal goals and career plans. Peer to Peer – facilitated team leader coaching groups – support and ongoing programs to help team leaders deal with day to day issues.
