  4. 4. Globalisationofficialystartedin…<br />15th centurywithSpainconquering some americanempires to search for resourceslikegold, silverandotherexpensiveproducts;<br />ThesewarsweretremendouslyunfairbecauseSpanisharmywasstrongerand more developed; <br />Theseempiresweredestroiedveryquickly.<br />
  5. 5. Generalsandempires<br />TheAztecempirewasconqueredanddistroyedbyHernanCortez;<br />TheIncanempirewasconqueredanddestroyedby Francisco Pizarro;<br />The Mayan empire was never conquered by the Spanish and is still active despite low population.<br />
  6. 6. Otherexpansions<br />Theromans, thepersians, thegreeks, the zulus andthearabians are some examplesofthecivilizationsthatstartedwithglobalisationtoo, buttheirexpansionswerebased on the imposition of their beliefs and cultures.<br />

Industrial revolution<br />This was the first big step toward modern globalization;<br />Industrial revolution brought a variety of new technologies (inclusive new war machines), new working activities such as factories work and means of transportation;<br />This revolution expanded to all Europe from England.<br />
  8. 8. But…<br />Thisbigdevelopmentdidn’tbringonlygoodthings:<br />Withthenewmachinespoliticalconflictsstarted. EnglandandGermanycompeted for weaponsandships;<br />Lenindefendedimperialismand some countriessupportedhim;<br />Othercountriesdefendedcapitalismandfirmlyopposedagainstthesecountries.<br />

So, thisbecame a snowballeffect<br />AndinJuly 28 of 1914 theBritish Empire, France and Russian Empire (Triple Entente) started a war against German empire, Austria-Hungary, Turkish-Otoman empire and Italy (Central Powers);<br />Portugal also joined the war as part of the Triple Entente to protect its colonies from German army;<br />
  10. 10. WorldWar I<br />In 1917 theUnitedStatesofAmericajoinedthewarandhistorychangedagainstthe Central Powers;<br />Theyweresurprisedinthetrencheswiththemassivepowerof USA andthewarwasalmostended;<br />Bythistimealmostallthecountriesintheworldhadalreadychosenoneside;<br />
  11. 11. WorldWar I<br />Inthesameyearthatthe USA joinedthewartheRussianEmpirewithdrewfromthe Triple Entente;<br />This war was characterized by a very physical fight. The so-called "trench warfare” that killed a lot of people.<br />In November 1918 the war ended with the Triple Entente winning the war and Germany signing the Treaty of Versailles.<br />

Fascism<br />Benito Mussolini createdtheconceptoffascismanddevelopeditsince 1919 andduringhisgovernment (1922-1945);<br />Hitler adopted a very similar system: nazism;<br />Buthewasdecided to takeEuropeandAsia to createanempireofaryansbyfightingotherracesandjewishpeople;<br />Othercontrieswithtotalitarian regimes: Austria, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Romania, Argentina andBrazil.<br />

So, in 1939…<br />A newwarstartedwiththeinvasionofPolandbyGermanyandthedeclarationofwarfromFrance to Germany;<br />AlliesandAxiswerethetwodivisionsofthiswar:<br />Some oftheallies are Poland, France, UK, SovietUnionandlaterthe USA. TheAxis are Germany, ItalyandJapan;<br />GermanywasstillhumiliatedbecauseoftheTreatyofVersaillesand Hitler actedwiththeideaofretaliation.<br />

WorldWar II<br />A longbattlewashappeninginEuropeandtheresourceswerealldirected to weapons;<br />Thepanzerunitsof Hitler weredevastingeverythingandin a fewtime a bigpartofEuropewasunderGermanarmy;<br />Hitler andStalinmadeancontractofnon-agressionbut Hitler betrayedSovietUnionandtheyfightedback;<br />

WorldWar II<br />InthePacific, JapanattackedPearlHarborandtheUnitedStatesjoinedthewar to defendtheirterritory;<br />Back to Europe, Berlinwastakenbythesovieticsandthepolish;<br />InJuin 6 of 1944, the D day, thearmyof USA, UK and some othersinvaded Normandia andtakenFranceback.<br />InEuropethewarendedwithAdolf Hitler killinghimself.<br />

EndofWar<br />JapanwasstillfightingandtheUnitedStateshadalreadyrecoveredtheirshipsand planes since 1941 (PearlHarbor);<br />InAugustof 1945 the USA dropedtwo nuclear bombsin Hiroshima andNagasakiandJapansurrenderedsixdayslater.<br />So, in 15 Augustof 1945 theWorldWar II endedwiththevictoryoftheallies.<br />

  21. 21. ConsequencesoftheColdWar:<br />Theworldwasdivided;<br />TheriseoftheBerlinWall;<br />Thespacerace;<br />Nuclear armsrace;<br />Espionage (bayofpigs, operationMongoose);<br />Extensiveaid to vulnerablestates:<br />USA theMarshallplanand USSR the COMECON plan.<br />
  22. 22. Competition:<br />Thespaceracewasveryimportant to show thedevelopmentofthe USA andthe USSR to theworld;<br />Interventions in the Korean War that won the United States and the Vietnam War that won the USSR;<br />

EndofColdWar<br />Inthe 80’s andearly 90’s thelackofdemocracyandtechnologicalracecausedbycommunismimpoverishedthe USSR alliesandtheUSSR’spresidentGorbachevstopedtheintensivecommunist regime. <br />Thecountriesofthe USSR weredesintegratingthisalliencesince 19 Jannuary 1990 to 31 December 1991;<br />Automaticallythecapitalistcountrieswerevictoriousandthesocialistonesadoptedcapitalism.<br />In 1989 theBerlinWallwentdown, butweknowthatevennowadaysthediscriminationbetweengermansstillhappens.<br />

Globalisationtoday<br />Eveninoursocietyglobalisation causes a lotofdamage.<br />Everyday a lotofculturesandlanguagesdie.<br />Theconcentrationofwealthoccursonlyindevelopedcountriesandtheothershavethelowergrowth rate andmillionsofpeoplelivewithlessthan 1 dollar for day.<br />Theonlythingthatmatters are profits, sopeople are beingreplacedbymachines (that are much more efficient).<br />Inthepoorestcontriespeople are madeslavesof multinacional enterprises.<br />Commongoodandconfortisreplacedbymoneyandallthelivingbeings are forgotten.<br />

But…<br />Thanks to itwehavetheright to share ouropinionandhaveitbeingheardacrosstheworld.<br />Soweshouldhavean active participationinsocietyandlettheothers agree or not with our opinions and correct them.<br />This way we can adjust to society or let society adjust to each one of us and all the living beings.<br />
