Confucius kǒnɡ zǐ 孔 子 551-479 BCE China has a long history of respecting teachers. <ul><li>In Confucianism, the order of respect is as follows : </li></ul><ul><li>Heaven </li></ul><ul><li>Mother Earth </li></ul><ul><li>Our country leader </li></ul><ul><li>One’s parents </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher </li></ul><ul><li>Respect=Responsibility </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers are expected to stop learning only when they reach ultimate perfection. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>In Dec. 1984 , Chinese Ministry of Education suggested that students begin activities to show their respect and love to the teachers as soon as they start the school term. In order to help promote the activities, they also suggested a Teacher’s Day. In Jan, 1985, their suggestion got approved: The NPC (National People’s Congress) Standing Committee passed the proposal and designated Sept. 10 every year as Teacher's Day. Thus, Sept. 10, 1985 became the new China's first Teacher's Day. </li></ul>
