  2. 2.  sudo apt-get install nis  It will install NIS files sudo apt-get install portmap  It will install portmap “is a server that converts RPC program numbers into DARPA protocol port numbers. It must be running in order to make RPC calls”
  3. 3.  change /etc/defaultdomain  Refer to the NIS server you will connect to vi /etc/hosts.allow  Add line  portmap : nisserver IP
  4. 4.  vi /etc/passwd  Add the line  +:::::: vi /etc/shadow  Add the line  +::: Vi /etc/group  Add the line  +::::::::
  5. 5.  vi /etc/yp.conf  Add the NIS server IP and NIS server slave IP “if exist”  Then restart the NIS service  sudo service nis restart
  6. 6.  Logoff and login again using one of the NIS users created on the NIS server It will mount the NIS user home directory on the client machine
