  6. 6. Categories of mobile enterprise solutions (Basole., 2007)
  7. 7. • GPS : not only a ‘map‘ but ‘geo-map’ • WiFi: sharing Internet access, transmitting Voice over WLANs and managing manufacturing and inventory
  8. 8. • Three area: – Mobile Local Search – Mobile Social Networking – Location-enhanched asset management
  9. 9. Evaluation of integrated communication technologies Advantages Downsides Business impacts
  10. 10. Advantages Overall benefit—improvement of mobility : Be always on the move Awareness of location Improved information accessibility
  11. 11. Advantages Improvement of coordination : There are different operating actors in an organization. They are difficult to reach due to location uncertainty. Integrated communication will close the gap between those “untouchable” actors.
  12. 12. Advantages Benefits on real-time decision making: the integrated communication allows decision makers to get the access to real-time data. So decisions can be made in time and in place, or even on the move.
  13. 13. Downsides Inborn limitation: • Reduced CPU performance • Small storage Security problems: Is your mobile phone a safe place ? Vendors’ promise and the reality: Perfect integration: a fact or fantasy?
  14. 14. Business impacts Reshaping of business : Applications of integrated technologies Examples Mobile inventory management (GPS and SMS) Tracking the location of goods and services, such as boxes, packets, troops and so on. Product location (GPS) Locating certain items, such as TVs, VCRs, or Cars Proactive service management (the integration) Transmitting information about aging components, such as automobile parts, to vendors Wireless re-engineering (the integration) Improving business services, such as claim adjustments or insurance Mobile auction and reverse auction (WiFi) Offering, selling and bidding Mobile entertainment services (WiFi) Providing services such as video on demand Mobile office (SMS) Providing services for business people, such as traffic jam reports, airport and flight information, vocation reservations, and procurement of products and services Mobile distance education (WiFi) Offering classes using streaming audio and video Wireless data centre (WiFi) Providing downloadable information from data warehouse Mobile music and music on demand (the integration) Allowing downloading and storing of music from the internet
  15. 15. Business impacts New customer relationship– mobile customer: GPS applications provide customers with “localized and personalized information” which will inform them where to go and what to purchase.
  16. 16. Future Development & Long-term Viability  Fourth Generation(4G) of Mobile Network Quality of Internet access by wire or wireless will be equal or almost the same which means quality of content- providing will be excellent using mobile terminal (János and Sándor, 2001) - Opportunity, Competition, Challenge - Integrate Right Technologies - Clear Target and User Requirements - Innovation and Security on Business Use - Application about Integration and Cooperation
  17. 17. Integrate Right Technologies • Not the more features the better! Infrared – not so usually used! • Considering feasibility of integration • Value-adding features to integrate! • Mobile business – Mobility • e.g. – Location-based service (Integrated GPS on mobile)
  18. 18. • Clear view on market of products • Organizations need to know – target customers, what they need, what advantages and benefits will be brought by products • e.g.- Telematics System (based on wireless data and GPS technology) from Samsung -requirement for real-time traffic situation and driving routing guidance • e.g. – Nokia separate products as different series (N series, 6 series, E series…)
  19. 19. • Innovation on both products and services in business use – increase competition • e.g. - case of Victoria’s Geodetic Strategy (location-based technologies and m-business ) • Security – digital information, mobile transaction • Means - digital signatures, non-repudiation (transaction), strong encryption, integrity of the message
  20. 20. • Teamwork (manufacturer, technical community, customers ) - application in m- business • Synchronization & cooperation between several parties & industry sectors • Coordinate - standards, definition of the content, road map of parties, migration to specifications
  21. 21. • Today’s business compete in real-time contexts. The use of mobile technology is able to produce a real- time business intelligence • Integrated communication has both advantages & disadvantages. As well as getting great values from those advantages , we should also pay attention to some downsides which could cause problems • For future development– integrate right features, considering user requirements, innovation & security issues, cooperation
