Environmental Education in Europe <ul><li>E.E.E. varies between countries, since it depends on various environmental problems of the member states and popular awareness in them towards Nature. </li></ul><ul><li>When enviromental education is taught in the school system it is made of it a discipline or an interdisciplinary matter </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>DISCIPLINE: A specific subjet. </li></ul><ul><li>INTERDISCIPLINARY: Integrated into school subjects .Various disciplines address enviromental issues or take it out through interdisciplinary projects, which are specified in a proposed activity. </li></ul>

Environmental Education in SPAIN <ul><li>In Spain, there is a process of administrative descentralization and changes in the current educational system. </li></ul><ul><li>A seminar held in 1988 in Ávila was the starting point for further integration of EE in the Spanish educational system, since the basis for the subsequent national strategies in this area were defined. </li></ul>

Environmental Education in SPAIN <ul><li>This culminated in 1990 with the implementation of the Organic Law on the Education System (LOGSE), which marked the formal inclusion of this type of education in the Spanish legistation. </li></ul><ul><li>LOGSE includes EE in the areas of cross-field teaching as optional. </li></ul>

Environmental Education in Spain <ul><li>The education authority sets the curriculum for the territory MEC and the Autonomous Communities, in collaboration with different agents in the educational community. </li></ul><ul><li>Under the Act, the presence of EE is at all levels and all areas within the curriculum </li></ul><ul><li>This approach requires taking into account the contents of the school, the objectives and the role of the educational commnunity members. </li></ul>

  8. 8. Environmental Education in Asturias <ul><li>EE is not limited to the teaching of ecology. It is primarily an “education” designed to bring about behaviour and transmit values, hence cannot be carried out within the framework of a single discipline. </li></ul><ul><li>In order to analyze environmental problems and proposing solutions, it requires knowledge from various disciplines. A single teacher could hardly cover all the knowledge needed. </li></ul>
  9. 9. SIAPA : Environmental Information System of Asturias <ul><li>They include a section called Education and Outrach, where you can access to resources, programs or publications of Environmental Education of the Deputy Ministry of Education </li></ul>

Environmental Education in Asturias <ul><li>The Government of the Principality of Asturias has spent several years working in this field with the intention of promoting pro-environmental action in the Asturian society. </li></ul><ul><li>This has been implemented with programs and environmental education campaigns in various subjects. </li></ul>

  19. 19. A. A Health Project in IES Valle de Aller <ul><li>The Secondary School IES Valle de Aller has been working in this project since 2007, but many teacher had previosly worked on these issues. We basically work around 7 areas. </li></ul><ul><li>One of these areas is: </li></ul><ul><li>ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION INCLUDING THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT </li></ul>

  21. 21. IES Valle de Aller <ul><li>Apart from the activitivities about recycling we also include topics such as climate change, global warming and responsible consumption . </li></ul>
  22. 22. ACTIVITIES: <ul><li>1. Students involved in a programme for recycling in school . They took part in a contest with this activity </li></ul><ul><li>PAPER AND CARDBOARD ECO-AUDIT </li></ul><ul><li>Students of 1st year Secondary Compulsary Education (12-13) made a survey about how much paper we waste and what that costs to the environment, as regards water, energy consupmtion, CO2 emissions and trees </li></ul>
  23. 23. PAPER AND CARDBOARD ECO-AUDIT <ul><li>The scholl was selected and awarded for the most interesting and efficient project on recycling. With the award (1000 euros) students and teachers involved decided to make a school diary where tips on recycling and environmental topics are the main features </li></ul>

PAPER AND CARDBOARD ECO-AUDIT <ul><li>In their Scintific Report students concluded that: </li></ul><ul><li>We DO NOT use the paper well on both sides. </li></ul><ul><li>In a year, 350 students of IES Valle de Aller throw away an average of 110 kg of unused white paper what means cutting 1,65 trees </li></ul><ul><li>Using ecobasket instead of wastepaper 3,6kg per group means 4,32 tons of carbon dioxide a year. </li></ul>

A FOREST AT THE SCHOOL <ul><li>Last May 3rd ESO students (14-15) with the advice of the municipal gardens, planted more than 30 trees in the gardens around school, donated by the Aller City Council and belonging to several species: ash, maple, chesnut, pine, birch among others. </li></ul><ul><li>We were celebrating the International Environment Day </li></ul>
  28. 28. A FOREST AT THE SCHOOL <ul><li>The students dug a hole about 20cm. deep, applied fertilizer and a thin layer of topsoil for planting and watering in abundance </li></ul>
  29. 29. A FOREST AT THE SCHOOL <ul><li>Each student is responsible of a tree for monitoring and care: watering, mineral nutrition and treatment to ensure that all of them can reach the size of their species and get a forest in our school. </li></ul>
