  1. 1. Clay Muppets Essential Question: What are the different stages of clay? Learning Goals I can: Identify the 3 stages of clay. Identify the properties of Glaze. Glaze our Muppets!!! 
  2. 2. Think, Pair, Share!   What is clay MADE of?  What is a KILN?  Why does clay need to dry COMPLETELY before going into the kiln?
  3. 3.  #1: Greenware: Just made- the clay is still wet  #2: Bisque: After the first firing (heat causes a chemical reaction, changing the clay)  #3: Glazed: A special paint that needs heat (fired in the kiln) to become shiny. 3 Phases of Clay #1 #2 #3
  4. 4. Today we are glazing!!! Things to remember:  Begin with the LIGHTEST color first.  Wash/dry your brush  Cover the bisque clay completely- EXCEPT the bottom (Why do you think that is so?)  Want it white? Use CLEAR glaze (on back table station.)  Paint at least 3 coats of each color! (the more coats, the shinier it will be)  Take your time! 
