  • 7. Group-1 Toilet Design | Devika Chopra Level-1 | Somya Agarwal Level-2 |Save The House-Lobding Pa,Leh We were briefed to visit the old Leh town and col- lect information about the vernacular toilet of la- dakh, understand their Sewage system, observe them, document in the form of text, sketchs and photographs, interview people about the toilets they have at home and the problems they face while using the existing toilets . Brief Observations 1.Old toiles have a pit hole surrounded by mud. 2.A small window for ventilation. 3.A chamber in which all waste gets stored. 4. After 1 year they open the chamber door which is covered by stones and the cleaners make that pit chamber clean. Pit chamber Pipe for Biogas The crux of this design was to have storage tanks adjacent to the hole in ground which could be connect- ed via pipe,on pulling the opening of the storage tank soil would flow through the pipe and directly into the pit chamber. Pit Hole Exploration
  • 8. Development Before jumping to 1:1 scale prototype we planned to make a small mockup of the storage tank to work out and check its mechanism and working. On making this mockup we found out several issues and could provide solutions and alternatives to it before we started to work on the actual scale model. This helped us to avoid wastage of the material available on site and even helped us while we were working on the actual scale model. Final Prototype (Scale 1:1) We had to make a working model of the design just demonstarte the working of the design ,alterations could be done according to site.We poposed a curved metal plate to be installed within the toilet seat which would help to sepaerate the solid and the liquid wastes. We learnt how to use grinder and sand paper to level ,saw, hammer and cutter. Group-1 Toilet Design | Devika Chopra Level-1 | Somya Agarwal Level-2 |Save The House-Lobding Pa,Leh
  • 9. “To design a Fine dine South Indian Restaurant and a retail Spices store in 5000 ft2 Area.” Site:Epicuria, Nehru Place, Delhi. Interior Architecture of a Public Space - COMMERCIAL + RETAIL Semester-5th 2016 |Level-2|Site analyis:Group work|Design:Individual work 03
  • 10. Site Analysis This food mall is a gastronomical paradise tucked right under the Nehru Place met- ro station. With a multitude of cuisines to choose from, Epicuria is a delight to.The mall is based on the concept of eat and go. It is opposite to the electronic bazaar. • There are 2 main entrances that opens in the center of the mall.• Vehicle access area • There is only One Public toilet on this floor. Which is judicial as almost all outlets have their own personal toilets. N N Orientation: The NORTH face of the building is actually the backside of the building. No direct sunlight on this side. Best to have outdoor seating. Currently, ser- vices are placed here. SOUTH : Front face of building; maximum heat gain area. All the seating is South facing with no shed . Direct sunlight causes the area to remain empty. All entries and parking access provided in the South direction. Proves as a benefit in winter. Concept Vegetarian South indian Fine dining According to my research tamilians are the vegetarian amongs all south indians. The Concept of my design is the famous architecture of tamil which inspired me.I took some elements of this architecture.Women will rule this design as south india regards women. Chettinad Architecture The Architecture is typically Tamil, with the outdoor and indoor veran- dahs with the central courtyard surrounded by puja rooms on each side, with the women’s hall and kitchen courtyard.Features :- 1.Rain Water Harvesting 2.Jhalli windows 3.Series of courtyard on the basis of pirvacy.
