I want to talk today about the fact that as you’ve heard, the landscape of design and what it means to be a designer is changing radically. I studied product design in Montreal at the University of Montreal and our designs for “devices” looked something like this….
The problem with this type of thinking of course is that the shell matters more than what’s inside of it. When asked where the technology lies, you’d simply have to draw a box in the diagram that said TECH and you were off the hook.
And then I went to do a master’s degree and discovered all about tools. New tools like Wiring, then Arduino that was bieng developed at my school.
