Personal Accounts vs. Business Pages • Pages allow you to designate multiple admins account • Pages are, by default, public and will start ranking in Facebook and public search results. • Pages are split into different categories (local businesses, brands, musicians) that help you get listed in more relevant search results. • Personal profiles have friends, which require mutual acceptance, whereas anyone can become a fan of your Page without first going through administrator approval.   35. 35. How To Set Up A Page A Page is similar to a Profile except that it is, by default, public and users can become a “fan” of your Page without first requiring approval from the Page admins. Social Media for Business |

Give users a reason to become a fan of your Page and engage with you. • Leverage the viral nature of Facebook – the news feed. The added benefit of creating an engaging page is that every time a fan engages with your page – from becoming a fan to posting a comment to attending an event – that activity is published to their “news feed” which is seen by all of their friends on Facebook. • Draw on your existing network. Consider emailing your opt-in mailing list, including a link to your page in your email signature, blogging about your Facebook page, and posting a link or badge to your page on your website or blog. • Make your Page publicly searchable. Page will be public so that it can get indexed by search engines and give you the opportunity to drive organic search traffic to your Page. Go to Edit Page and then Settings and set your page to be “Published (publicly visible).” • Use Facebook Ads for an extra push.   43. 43. Using FBML What is FBML? (Facebook Markup Language) - A way to add advanced functionality to your Page. It’s an application that will add a box to your Page in which you can render HTML or FBML (Facebook Markup Language) for enhanced Page customization. Social Media for Business |

Using FBML How To Install FBML • Do a search for “static FBML” on Facebook • Click “Add to my Page” in the upper-left • Select the Page you want to customize by clicking the “Add to Page” button next to the Page NEXT • Create your tab. • Go to your Page and click the link, “Edit Page” • Scroll down you will see a subsection called “FBML” - Click on the “Application Settings” • Click “add” next to the Tab field and click Okay Social Media for Business |

Using FBML Add Content To Your Custom Tab • Click the “>>” tab there is now an “FBML” option in the drop-down. • To add content, click on “Edit Page” • Go to the “FBML” subsection again, click the “Edit” link. This is your Canvas. • Change the title of the tab. “Welcome”, or “Introduction”. You don’t need to include any <html>, <head>, or <body> tags, as the HTML you enter will only take the place of that whitespace you just saw. All the header stuff is taken care of for you.   47. 47. Using FBML Customize Your Tab Beyond simple HTML you can also enter very simple FBML tags to simplify some of the process. Tags: <fb:name> – displays a specific user’s name in the standard Facebook format <fb:profile-pic> – displays a specific user’s profile picture in the standard Facebook format <fb:swf> (great for Youtube videos or other video display) – allows you to include Flash applications in your tab <fb:live-stream> – posts a Facebook live stream widget on your Tab (you must create a new application to do this) <fb:comments> – adds a Facebook comments box to your Tab Social Media for Business |

Using FBML Set A Page To Default Set your Page to default to the new tab to give a nice welcome message for your fans. • Click “Edit Page” • Under “Wall Settings”, click “edit”, and under “default landing tab for everyone else” select your new tab in the drop down.
