SMACAD Spring 2011 Lesson 1

 1. 1. SMACAD – Spring 2011 Social Media Strategist Certification Report on Lesson 1 Exercise Des Walsh
 2. 2. SMACAD – Spring 2011 Exercise Ask, online, a question starting “Does anybody have experience with...” inserting the product or service I'm selling or promoting
 3. 3. SMACAD – Spring 2011 Exercise Ask, online, a question starting “Does anybody have experience with...” inserting the product or service I'm selling or promoting
 4. 4. SMACAD – Spring 2011 I wanted to ask on LinkedIn Answers, where your question gets flagged if it looks like a promo and you haven't checked that box, so I phrased the question in terms of customer experience. I asked Does anyone have experience with special challenges for professional services firms developing social media strategies?
 5. 5. SMACAD – Spring 2011 In about 24 hours I've had four very thoughtful, valuable answers on LinkedIn Answers
 6. 6. SMACAD – Spring 2011 I asked also on Yahoo! Answers In 24 hours I have had zero response
 7. 7. SMACAD – Spring 2011

Takeaways from the Lesson 1 exercise

I suspect it's harder to ask questions about a professional service, say coaching or social media strategy, than about a brand or product – X brand tractors, Y brand computer

because of the policing of some platforms against questions that are really promos, albeit thinly disguised, it's smart (for me at least) and surely more productive in the long run to phrase the question in terms more about the problem a prospective customer would like solved

I now have some invaluable ideas and shared experience from those who responded
