USA NZ ARG women's field hockey teams: comparison by goal differential
1. One way to evaluate
performance is to do a
comparison. I chose the NZ
women as a comparator for
the USA women's program
because NZ has a new set of
coaches and NZ was ranked
~12th in the world in 2005,
which is similar to the
situation the USA women's
program was in circa 2005.
What do these graphs for the
years 2004-2012 tell us?
The first row of graphs
shows that the goal
cumulative differential
between the ARG and USA
women's teams is increasing
in ARG's favor and that the
cumulative goal differential
between the ARG and NZ
teams is being reduced.
The second row of graphs
shows that the goal per game
differential between the
ARG and USA women's
teams is increasing in ARG's
favor
and that the per game goal
differential between the
ARG and NZ teams is being
reduced by NZ.
The third set of graphs
shows the total goal
differential per year. The
graphs are self evident.
ARG is increasing the goal
differential against the USA.
NZ is reducing the goal
differential vs ARG
