7. Aims
- The SDI-EDU project aims to transfer a former experience from EU
research projects dealing with Spatial Data Infrastructure and
spatial planning (PLAN4ALL, HUMBOLDT or NATURNET REDIME)
towards planners in European Regions and municipalities.
- The SDI-EDU project uses innovative educational methods which
combine methods of distance vocational training, e-learning and
knowledge sharing.
- This functionality allows the transfer experience about the concept of
SDI in spatial planning purposes

8. 2- To transfer a former experience
SDI-EDU project is based on methods approuved in the Humboldt and
Naturnet Redime projects.
First step: State of Art
A creation of Collaboration for the realization.
Αnalysis of examples which have a relation with the creation of
SDI based on INSPIRE directive rules.
• Αnalysis of the available tools and data sources.
• Material Preparation from previous experiences , tools and data
that they can be implemented in the SDI-EDU project.

9. Second step: Creation of a questionnaire diffused in different
organizations (120 in 7 partners countries)
=> Questionnaire permits to identify what are the interests of the
Spatial Planners in relation with a possible training content.

11. It will realize training sessions for the spatial planners and it will contain
the 17 following lessons:
1) Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) – the importance, awareness, its
role in planning processes
2) INSPIRE directive and implementing mechanisms (IR ...)
3) National INSPIRE transposition
4) INSPIRE development and innovations in European projects (Plan4All,
SDI-EDU) – what exactly: tools, techniques, special applicative user
and administrative GI knowledge, user skills
5) INSPIRE impacts in national context generally, in given country

12. 6) INSPIRE implementation into the national environment (larger than
SDI with respect toplanning practice and rules)
7) Legal rules, acts, normative, methodological institutes and processes
in given country
8) Metainformation, catalogues in / for spatial planning – generally,
illustrative learning cases
9) Spatial data – INSPIRE approach for spatial planning – generally, with
respect to learning cases base on good practice understandable to
the audienceind power stations)
10) Software tools directly useable for spatial planners – SDI-EDU
teaching environment in accord to existing LMSs
11) What to do with the existing spatial data in planning to be INSPIRE compliant? To
be useable for upcoming tasks and SP objectives in EU, in given country?

14. 3- Use of innovative methods for training
In the context of the SDI-EDU project,
some specific tools are used in the training sessions.
They come from the computer sciences and Information Technology in
order to transfer experience and capabilities.

Innovation training in SDI-EDU is supported by the Biz-Biz
software :
=> it is developed by one partner.
=> Open source web browser
BizBiz is an open source browser based video conference, collaboration and
learning tool which supports slideshows, webpage demonstration,
synchronous pre-recorded video display, chat and lecturers live narration
using webcamera provided video.

- A best comprehension of the subjects
- Availability to manage the spatial data, metadata of a territory in
relation with the EU requirements and rules.
