  9. 9. <ul><li>Shortly before going into hiding, Anne received a diary </li></ul><ul><li>Naming it ‘Kitty’, she wrote in it throughout her stay in the Secret Annex </li></ul><ul><li>She used it to record her feelings and memories until the hiding place was discovered </li></ul>
  10. 10. <ul><li>On Friday, August 4, 1944, Anne, her family, and the others were found </li></ul><ul><li>The office building was raided by the Security Police </li></ul><ul><li>The Franks, Van Pels, and Mr. Pfeffer are arresting and shipped off to Auschwitz </li></ul>
  11. 11. <ul><li>Anne and Margot were transported to Bergen-Belsen in October 1944 </li></ul><ul><li>Both died in March 1945 from Typhus </li></ul><ul><li>Bergen-Belsen was liberated a few weeks later </li></ul><ul><li>The only survivor from the Secret Annex was Otto, Anne’s father </li></ul>
  12. 12. <ul><li>After the Franks were taken away, one of those who helped them, Miep Gies, found Anne’s diary scattered in the Secret Annex </li></ul><ul><li>Saving it, she returned it to Otto when he returned to them </li></ul><ul><li>After reading through it, he chose to send parts of it to be published into what many today know of as Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl . </li></ul>
