We have moved a tree and we’re moving ground in our expansion phases. The plan ahead is that we lay the sewer lines, then put in a parking lot to move our classes from evening to between our morning services! To just be able to be together and see each other for this time will be a huge boost to our spiritual connec- tions. Simultaneously with our parking lot addition, we will be building an education wing that we desperately need. This will provide more specific classes for adults and youth, so we can be more engaged and edified. When we look around the building grounds and look at the blueprints we see the room to improve. This is truly an exciting time in the history of the Deerfoot Church of Christ. As you make up a piece of the body of Christ here, it is also an exciting time in your life. When you look at your own life and God’s blue print, do you see room to improve? This is the focus of our new Wednesday night class, which has kicked off to a great start. I have room to improve so that I, too, can become more holy in my personal building process through my many phases of life. Do you have room to improve in your heart? Paul expected the Corinthians congregation to find the room. “We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open. You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. In return (I speak as to children) widen your hearts also” (2 Corin- thians 6:11-13). We have an opportunity today to widen our hearts to make less room for our own affections and more room for spiritual matters. Would you be willing to make more room for God in your heart this week? Maybe that looks like coming to midweek study, or reaching out to that family you haven’t seen for a while. Maybe it’s choosing a specific person to pray for every day this week. Who would that be, and will you com- mit? I would love to know the outcome of this widening process. I have committed to praying more specifi- cally for individuals in this congregation. If we all made time for adding one Spiritual focus this week, what results would we begin to see? Remember - there is always room to improve.

So you shall put away the evil from your midst.” Therefore the four hundred prophets of Baal were seized, brought down to the brook Kishon where they were killed. Next Elijah bowed and prayed to God. (cf. James 5:17, 18). There had been no rain at the request of Elijah for 3 ½ years, but now Elijah prays for rain. His servant was sent to look toward the sea but he saw nothing. He was sent back 7 times and on the seventh time he saw a cloud about the size of a man’s hand. The servant goes at Elijah’s com- mand to tell Ahab to go down lest he be stopped by the heavy shower. The hand of the Lord was on Elijah and he out ran the chariot of Ahab to Jezreel. This was the miracu- lous power of God at work in the prophet’s life. The victory must have been sweet to Elijah but it was to be short lived. When he came down from that mountain top experience to the valley of Jezreel, he heard of Jeze- bel’s threats to kill him as he had killed the prophets of Baal. Discouraged, Elijah has given up. He has put his own life in danger against those prophets and his reward seems to be no different than that of those prophets that Jezebel has already killed. “Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomor- row about this time” (I Kings 19:2). All of his efforts seemed to have been for nought. “And I alone am left and they seek my life, to take it away (I Kings 19:14).” But Elijah has not failed for he has done what God commanded of him. God said to him, “Yet I have left me seven thou- sand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him” (I Kings 19:18). We do not know but maybe those 7,000 had remained faithful to God because of the work of Elijah. We may work and work hard for God and see no visible fruit and think we have failed, but who knows how many may have remained faithful to God because of the very example that you set for them! We cannot succeed when we are spiritually crippled. Therefore, we need men who are willing to make a decision for God. We need men who are willing to step up and meet the challenge of those who oppose God. God has proven Himself and we need to prove ourselves.
