Her daughter replied to her mother’s request saying, “But why do I need to clean my room? It will just get dirty again and I’ll have to clean it again tomorrow.” That’s what makes such work so hard. It’s not that difficult to clean a room but it’s the thought that it’s something that has to be done again and again. I read once of a maid who was asked about her new job and she said, “It’s alright except that it’s so daily.” That’s life. It’s the constant day in and day out grind that wears on us, discourages us and cause us to quit. Thomas Edison said one time, “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” As Christians we need to understand that it’s to that daily grind that we are called to serve. In Acts chapter two we read of the beginning of the church. When the gospel was preached for the first time three thousand people responded in obedience and in verse 46 we are told that these new Christians “So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart” (Acts 2:46). These early Christians were active in their lives of service. Each day found them in the temple, a united people, who praised God, and who taught others about Christ. We know this is true because there were daily additions to the church (Acts 2:47). In Acts 5:42 we read, “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.” The apostles had been beaten and commanded not to preach any more in the name of Jesus yet they continued to preach every day in the temple and in every house. It was this latter teaching that was the key to their growth. One cannot be successful in evangelizing a community unless they are ac- tively teaching the people in their homes. Later in the book of Acts we read of Paul’s work in Berea. Luke wrote of those people, “These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readi- ness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11). What an example those of Berea are to us. They searched the scriptures “daily.” That’s how people become learned; that’s how people are able to avoid being deceived by false teachers and to keep themselves from being led astray. The Christian life is one of daily devotion to Christ. We need to be careful that we do not let ourselves become weary of the “daily grind.” Re- member Paul’s admonition to the churches of Galatia and the church in Thessalonica. “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Gal. 6:9). “But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good Do you want to learn how to use social media to evangelize to our neighbors?
